Ex-Students Assignment ED, Deadline 08 JAN

This document provides instructions for an engineering drawing assignment. It includes 5 questions with multiple parts each. Question 1 involves drawing different views of ellipses and curves. Question 2 involves drawing multi-view projections of lines with given orientations. Question 3 covers the differences between first and third angle projections and creating an isometric view. Questions 4 and 5 involve drawing projections of solids, like cones and cylinders, that are cut or combined in various ways. The document specifies to draw all views neatly and provide any necessary assumed data.

MER2C3
ENGINEERING DRAWING

Note: All questions are compulsory.Attempt any two parts from Question 1 to 3.Assume suitable data
wherever if necessary & mention it, Drawing should be Neat.

Q.1. (a) The major axis of an ellipse is 110 mm long and the foci are at a distance of 15 mm
from its ends. Draw the ellipse, one –half of it by ‘concentric circles ’ method and
the other half by ‘rectangle’ method. Determine eccentricity of the ellipse.
(b) A Circle having a 60 mm diameter rolls on a horizontal line for half revolution and
then on a vertical line for another half .Draw the curve traced out by a point lying
on the circumference of the circle.
(c) A room of 1728 m3 volume is shown by a cube 4 cm side .Find the R.F. and
construct a scale to measure up to 50 meter .also indicated distance of 37.6 meter
on the scale.

Q.2. (a) The front view of a 75 mm long line PQ measures 50 mm, while its top view
measures 60 mm. If and P of the line is 35 mm above the H.P. and 15 mm in front
of V.P., draw its projections and the traces . Determine the true inclination of the
line PQ with H.P .and V.P.
(b) A 100 mm long line PQ is inclined at 30° to the H.P. and 45° to the V.P. Its mid
point is 35 mm above the H.P. and 50 mm in front of V.P. Draw its projections.
(c) Draw the projections of a circular plane with a 50 mm diameter ,resting on a
point A of the circumference in the H.P., such that its surface is inclined at 45 0 to
the H.P. and (a) the top view of the diameter through point A is inclined at 30 o to
the V.P., (b) the diameter through point A is inclined at 30o to the V.P.

Q.3. (a) Explain the essential difference between the I st angle projection and IIIrd angle
projection.
(b) Draw Front, Side and Top View of the object Shown in Figure 1 (all dimensions
are in mm) with respect to direction of Front view (FV) by First Angle Projection
Method.
(c) Draw an isometric view of a circular lamina with a 40 mm diameter on all the
horizontal plane and vertical plane using four centre method.
Q.4. A right cone with a 50 mm base diameter and a 60 mm axis is resting on its base in
the H.P. it is cut by an auxiliary inclined plane parallel to and 8 mm away from the
extreme generator. Draw the development of lateral surface of the remaining solid.
OR
A cylinder with a 50 mm base diameter and a 70 mm long axis ,is resting on its
base on the H.P. It is cut by an A.V.P. (Auxiliary Vertical Plane) inclined at 60 0 to
the reference line at a distance 17 mm from the axis . Draw its sectional front view ,
top view and true shape of the section.

Q.5. A cone with a 100 mm base diameter and a 110 mm long axis , is resting on its
base on the H.P. It is completely penetrated by a cylinder with a 40 mm base
diameter whose axis is parallel to both the principal planes and 30 mm above the
H.P. the axis of the solids are 10 mm apart . Draw the projections of the
combination and show curves of intersection
OR
A vertical cylinder having base with a 70 mm diameter is resting on its base on the
H.P. It penetrated by another cylinder having with a base of 50 mm diameter ,the
axis of which is parallel to both the principal planes .The two axes are 8 mm apart
and length of both axes of cylinder is 120 mm . Draw the projections of the com-
bination and show curves of intersection.
