Did you know that a large percentage of human brain dedicated itself to
visual processing? Our love of image lies with our cognition and ability to
pay attention. No one can rely on words alone. Images are powerful, they
can grab our attention easily and we are immediately drawn to them. Colors,
shape, sizes, and position in visual images quickly transmit information to
our brain. They could trigger emotions, helps us to learn and impacts our
perception.

Therefore, it is a must to understand visual and media information for us to


better communicate with other people graphically in ways that are efficient
and help to convey more meaning. At the end of this lesson, you should be
able to answer the question: How an effective creation of visual information
can affect my perception and influence my decision making?
What is Visual Media and Information?

- materials, programs, applications and the like that


teachers and students use to formulate new information to
aid learning through the use, analysis, evaluation and
production of visual images.

What is Visual Information?


Visual information is the artistic or creative representation or
interpretation of an idea, concept, or emotion using different
media. It is created by painters, photographers, graphic artist
or designer, and sculptors, among others.
Purpose of Visual Information?

- The primary purpose of visual information


is to gain attention, create meaning and
facilitate retention.
What is Visual Media?

Visual media refers collectively to all media technologies that


are intended to reach a large audience via visual communication.

- It helps readers clarify and comprehend visual information


such as symbols, icons, pictures, statistical visualization,
graphic designs, 3D images, drawings, cartoons, maps, and
such.
FORMAL MEDIA- visual media produced by formal
organizations such as schools, government, and
established media/publishing company. The
purpose is to aids learning, promote awareness,
or endorse products.
INFORMAL MEDIA- visual media produced by others
(online content creators, independent group) are
considered informally. The primarily intention of
producing them is to gain attention, create meaning,
and facilitate the retention of information to its target
audience.

TYPES OF VISUAL MEDIA

1.Photography – the art or process of capturing images. These photos are used as
examples for print ads in marketing products or services. Photography let us see something
we may never have noticed otherwise. It is a way to express your ideas for others to see.
