Science 8 Module

This document contains a science worksheet for students covering topics on potential energy, kinetic energy, and the speed of sound. On Monday, students are asked questions to calculate potential energy using the formula PE=mgh. On Tuesday, questions focus on calculating kinetic energy using the formula KE=1/2mv^2. On Wednesday, students are to create a Venn diagram comparing the similarities and differences between potential and kinetic energy. On Thursday and Friday, students will conduct an activity to determine the effect of temperature on the speed of sound by plotting data on a graph and answering questions about the relationship between temperature and speed of sound.

SCIENCE 8 Worksheet

MONDAY: Potential Energy, use GRESA.

1. You serve a volleyball with a mass of 2.1 kg. The ball leaves your hand with a speed of
30 m/s.

2. A baby carriage is sitting at the top of a hill that is 21 m high. The carriage with the
baby has a mass of 1.5 kg.

3. A car is traveling with a velocity of 40 m/s and has a mass of 1120 kg.

4. A wagon loaded with iron blocks is pushed up an inclined plane to its highest point.
The total mass of the wagon is 50 kg and the height of the topmost point from the
ground is 5 meters. What is the total potential energy of the wagon at the top?

TUESDAY: Kinetic Energy, use GRESA.

1. A bicycle with a mass of 15 kg is moving at 10 m/s.

2. A child on a swing with a mass of 30 kg reaches a maximum velocity of 2 m/s.

3. What is the kinetic energy of a 3kg ball that is rolling 2m/s

4. Calculate the kinetic energy of a truck that has a mass of 2900kg and is moving at
55m/s

WEDNESDAY: Using the Venn diagram, write the similarities and differences of Potential
and Kinetic Energy.

Potential Energy Kinetic Energy

Both

A. Energy H. affected by velocity or speed

B. Stored energy I. affected by gravity

C. Energy in motion J. affected by mass

D. Is affected by height or elevation K. a parked biked on top of a hill

E. Has a unit of joules L. a bike riding down a hill

F. Increases as position elevates M. PE = mgh

G. Increases as motion increases N. KE = ½ mv2

THURSDAY AND FRIDAY

Activity: Speed of Sound

Objective: At the end of this activity, you are expected

to determine the effect of temperature on the speed of
sound.

The table below shows the speed of sound in air at

various temperatures. Plot the data on the graph
provided and answer the questions that follow.

. 1. Based on the graph, what is the relationship of temperature to the speed of sound in air?

2. From your graph, find the interval where the speed of sound at 15°C is located

3. Extend the line of your graph and find the interval where the speed of sound at 25°C is located.

4. Use your graph to determine how much does the speed of sound change for the given change
in temperature.
