Adding Integer (MATHEMATICS 7) Final

The document contains a detailed lesson plan for a Grade 7 mathematics class on addition of integers. The lesson plan outlines the objectives to add integers using different approaches and solve word problems involving integers. It details the procedures the teacher and students will follow, including reviewing the previous lesson on sets, introducing integers and the number line, providing examples of integer addition using a number line, and discussing the rules for adding integers. The lesson aims to establish students' understanding of integers and the fundamental operation of addition on integers.

1. Greetings Good morning, everyone! Good morning, Ma’am!

stand for a moment for a brief prayer.

Can I ask the Classroom President to The Classroom President

lead the prayer? will lead the prayer.

Kindly settle down.

Values Integration
Education is a two-way process.
Teachers can’t do it alone. Students must
also do their part for meaningful learning
to take place.

Okay, let’s start!

A. Reviewing previous Let’s proceed to the discussion proper but

lesson or presenting the before that, let’s have a short review of
new lesson your discussion last meeting.

What was your discussion last time? All about Sets

ma’am.

What is the definition of a Set? Set is a well-

defined group of
objects, called
Elements.

Can you recall what are the different Subset, Proper

types of Set? Subset, Universal
Set, Null Set, and
Cardinality of a Set.

Good point! Since you already grasped

the lesson last meeting. Let us now move
on to our new topic.
B. Establishing a purpose Motivation: Do you remember me?
for the Lesson

Do you still remember these symbols?

 >, <, = Yes ma’am

They are? Inequalities: Greater than,

less than, and equal.

Try this one, choose what symbol is

appropriate.

1. 1_2 1. Less than (<)

2. 0_9 2. Less than (<)
3. 5_-4 3. Greater than (>)
4. -10_1 4. Less than (<)
5. 6_-67 5. Greater than (>)
What is this? Number Line

What are these? Positive Numbers

Negative Numbers
How about this?

Very good, based on those words can All about Integers ma’am.
you guess our topic for today?

Very good! Our topic for today is all about

Integers.

(Indicator 3)

These are the objectives of our lesson

this morning.

At the end of the lesson, the students are

expected to:

 Add integers using different

approaches.
 Solve word problems involving
addition of integers.

C. Presenting Fundamental Operation on Integers:

examples/instances of Addition of Integers
the new lesson
What is Integer?

Integer include positive numbers,

negative numbers, and zero.

+1, +2, +3, +4, …

Positive Numbers are?

Negative Numbers are? -1, -2, -3, -4, …

Integer is a Latin word which means

“whole” or “intact”. This means integers
do not include fractions or decimals.

Set of Integers

The set of integers is represented by the

letter Z and it is written as:

Z={ ...−4 ,−3 ,−2 ,−1 , 0 ,1 , 2 , 3 , 4 , ... }

D. Discussing new There are fundamental operations on

concepts and practicing integers. We have this basic arithmetic
new skills #1 operations Addition, Subtraction,
Multiplication, and Division.

And we will be starting on Addition.

Example 1:

1+2=?

By using a number line, we have this one.

On the number line, start with point 1 and
count 2 units to the right. At what point on
the number line does it stop?

3 ma’am
It stops at point 3; hence, 1+2=3.

Got it?

Another example, we have.

Yes ma’am
Example 2:

3+(-4)=

On the number line, start from 3 and

count 4 units going to the left since the
sign of 3 is negative.

At which point does it stop?

It stops at point -1; hence, 3+(-4)=-1 -1 ma’am

Got it?

The number line model is practical for Yes ma’am

small integers. But how do we add larger
integers? Like a 100? We can’t use a
number line if we’re only given a couple
of seconds to solve.
E. Discussing new Who wants a shortcut? We ma’am!
concepts and practicing
new skills #2 In Adding integers, we also have a rule.

Rules in Adding Integers

Everyone read the rules.

Same Signs = Add then copy the sign Same Signs = Add then
Different Signs = Subtract then copy the copy the sign
sign of the number with the larger Different Signs = Subtract
absolute value. then copy the sign of the
number with the larger
absolute value.

Example:

1. 4+5=9
2. 5+(-3)=2
3. 6+5=11

Who wants to try?

1. 7+(-3)= 1. 4
2. (-7)+(-6)= 2. -13

F. Developing Mastery Can you act?

This is a group activity, so we will group

yourselves into 5 groups.
Count 1-5

Have you encountered adding integers in Yes, we have ma’am

your daily lives? Right?

And I want you to give me some of those

by acting.

Every group will act like in a real-life

situation where you can add an integer.
And when a group presents their act on
the front, I request the other group to be
silent. There will be a deduction to the
group who are loud. Any language can be
used (Filipino, English, Bisaya).

I will give you 2 minutes to prepare and

every group can have a maximum of 3
minutes on their act.

Everyone, are you ready? Yes ma’am!

Congratulations everyone! Give yourself

a round of applause.
G. Finding practical Okay class. Aside from your role play,
application of concepts what parts in your life that there is like
and skills in daily living adding integers?
The students will raise
The teacher will ask the students to their hands and share
discover about adding integers. their thoughts.

There is paying debt,

buying groceries, giving
food, and a change when
buying an ice cream.
Very good.

Math is all about numbers. Numbers are

integers and we are constantly using
integer values to calculate real-life
situations.
H. Making generalizations Derive the fundamental
