I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson the learners are expected to:

a. Differentiate the active and passive voices of the verb.


b. Transform statements from the active voice to the passive voice and vice
versa, and
c. Use active and passive voices in varied contexts.

VOICES OF THE VERB


Voices of the verb focuses on the function of the subject being either the doer/performer or the
receiver of the action. They are classified as to: (a) active and (b) passive.

Active voice occurs when the subject of the sentence acts as the performer of doer of the action
while passive voice indicated that the subject of the sentence is the receiver of the action. Though it is not
always present, the doer of the action in passive voice is introduced by the preposition by.

Another Example:
1. The doctor visited her patients in the hospital. (Active Voice)
2. The medicine was administered by the nurse to the patients. (Passive Voice)
3. The lesson was delivered in a well-planned session. (Passive Voice)
4. Mr. Fonacier reminded the teachers to submit their reports. (Active Voice)
5. The fire prevention report was drafted by Edwin. (Passive Voice)
6. Bea’s chin underwent a medical procedure yesterday. (Passive Voice)
7. The seeds were distributed as part of the urban farming project. (Passive Voice)
8. Vivian dedicated her life to serving her husband. (Active Voice)
9. Mike’s car was bought from a car shop last month. (Passive Voice)
10. The president ordered the arrest of lawless citizens. (Active Voice)
Tense of the Verb
If the Verb in the Active voice is in present tense. The Passive Voice should also be
in Present Tense.

D. APPLICATION

(Group Activity)
Group 1: Make a sentence at least (5) that show’s Active Voice
Group 2: Make a sentence at least (5) that show’s Passive Voice
After the presentation: each group will change their sentences and they are going to translate it into active
and Passive Voice. The group 1 will transfer into Active voice the work of Group 2 and Group 2 will do the
same to the work of Group 1. translate it into Passive Voice.

E. EVALUATION

Direction: Write D if the subject is the doer of the action. And R if the receiver of the action.
