Types of Computer
Personal computer/ Microcomputers
A personal computer is a computer that designed for general use by a single user.
Personal Computers is also known as PC’s .are smaller and less powerful than the others.
They are used in homes, schools, and small businesses.

There are 3 main types of PCs


1. Desktop PC.
2. Laptop.
3. Handheld.

1. Desktop

 A desktop computer is a personal computer built


to be used at a desk.
 They utilize peripheral devices for interaction, such
as a keyboard, mouse, monitor, and a system.
 Desktop computers can have
a horizontal or vertical (system unit)
 Unlike a laptop, which is portable, desktop
computers are generally made to stay at one
location.

2. Laptop

 A laptop computer is a small personal computer.


 They are designed to be more portable than
traditional desktop computers, with many of the
same abilities.
 Laptops are able to be folded flat for transportation
and have a built-in keyboard and touchpad.

3. Handheld

 A PC that fit in the palm of your hand and run


on batteries. For example a smartphone ,
tablets ipads etc
 A hand-held computer is a portable computer
that is small enough to be held in one’s hand.
 Although extremely convenient to carry,
handheld computers have not replaced
notebook computers because of their small
keyboards and screens.
 Traditional hand-held computers were PDAs
and devices specifically designed to provide
PIM (personal information manager) functions,
such as a calendar and address book.
 Today Pocket PCs, smartphones and tablets
are common consumer devices.
