Chapter-7, CSBQs-Coordinate

1. A school conducted a sports day with lines drawn 1m apart in a rectangular field ABCD. Niharika ran 1/4 of the distance of line AD and posted a green flag. Preet ran 1/5 of the distance of line AD and posted a red flag. 2. Four students, A, B, C, and D, were positioned in a school playground for their annual sports day. Their positions formed a figure and one was closest to the teacher sitting at the origin. 3. Jagdish has a triangular field AQC where he wants to leave a square PQRS for wheat and use the remaining land for vegetables. If point S divides line CA in a ratio K

1.

In order to conduct Sports Day activities in your School, lines have been drawn
with chalk powder at a distance of 1 m each, in a rectangular shaped ground
ABCD, 100 flowerpots have been placed at a distance of 1 m from each other
along AD, as shown in given figure below. Niharika runs 1/4 th the distance AD
on the 2nd line and posts a green flag. Preet runs 1/5 th distance AD on the eighth
line and posts a red flag.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Find the position of green flag.
(ii) Find the position of red flag.
(iii) If Rashmi has to post a blue flag exactly halfway between the line segment
joining the two flags, where should she post her flag?
Or,
If Joy has to post a flag at one-fourth distance from green flag, in the line
segment joining the green and red flags, then where should he post his flag?
2. Students of a school are standing in rows and columns in their school playground
to celebrate their annual sports day. A, B, C and D are the positions of four
students as shown in the figure.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Find the figure formed by the four points A, B, C and D.
(ii) If the sports teacher is sitting at the origin, then which of the four students
is closest to him?
(iii) The coordinates of the mid-point of line segment AC.
Or,
If a point P divides the line segment AD in the ratio 1: 2, then find the
coordinates of P.
3. Jagdish has a field which is in the shape of a right angled triangle AQC. He wants
to leave a space in the form of a square PQRS inside the field for growing wheat
and the remaining for growing vegetables (as shown in the figure). In the field,
there is a pole marked as O.

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Taking O as origin, coordinates of P are (-200, 0) and of Q are (200, 0). PQRS
being a square, what are the coordinates of R and S?
(ii) If S divides CA in the ratio K: 1, what is the value of K, where point A is (200,
800)?
(iii) What is the area of square PQRS?
Or,
What is the length of diagonal PR in square PQRS?
4. SEATING ARRANGEMENT :
In a classroom, four friends are seated at the points A, B, C and D as shown below.
All the friends are observing this seating arrangement and ask different questions
to each other. Observe the seating arrangement and help them to answer the
following questions:

Based on the above information, answer the following questions:

(i) Find the co-ordinates of point A and point B.
(ii) What are the coordinates of point C and D respectively?
(iii) Write the name of the shape of the given seating arrangement.
Or,
What is the distance between two friends seating at point A and B?
5. NO SMOKING CAMPAIGN:
To raise social awareness about hazards of smoking, a school decided to start 'No
smoking' campaign. 10 students are asked to prepare campaign banners in the
shape of a triangle. The vertices of one of the triangle are P (-3, 4), Q (3, 4) and
R(-2, -1).

Based on the above information, answer the following questions.

(i) Find the coordinates of centroid of ΔPQR.
(ii) If S be the mid-point of line joining P and Q, then find the coordinates of S.
(iii) If T be the mid-point of line joining R and Q, then find the coordinates of T.
Or,
Find the coordinates of centroid of ΔSTU.
