Questions Audacity
Questions Audacity
The best way to reduce breaths from inhaling and exhaling is to use a noise reduction effect. In
Audacity, you can do this by going to Effect > Noise Reduction. For more plz see video
3. Is there a feature where I can have my voice as standard instead of editing all the time?
Yes, there is. In Audacity, you can use the Normalize effect to normalize your audio to a certain
level. This will make all of your recordings sound consistent, even if you record at different
volumes. To normalize your audio, go to Effect > Normalize. (see video)
You said there was a video, unsure if there is a video sent.
4. Eliminate filler words, but not too much to still sound real and not like I am reading from a
script?
This is a bit more difficult, but it can be done. In Audacity, you can use the Selection Tool to
select the filler words that you want to remove. Then, you can press Delete to remove them.
However, be careful not to remove too many filler words
Can you eliminate filler words like ‘so’ with one click or do I have to edit every filler word one
line at a time for the whole duration?
5. I can send a list of features which I use, but I am slightly confused as any time I make an edit it
changes everything, so unsure what exactly I am doing.
If you face any kind of help plz discuss with me I will help you don’t worry
1. For noise reduction. I see you used Audacity then Kapwing. Is Audacity not good enough?
Does Kapwing do a better job? If so, do I apply noise reduction on Kapwing and then apply it to
Audacity?
2. For noise reduction, I see that it can be applied multiple times, is it best to do it only once?
3. Better sound if I hold the mic near my lips or a little distance away? Reason I ask is I see
others who hold it a distance away when they talk, but then there are others who say you want
to hold it close. In my testing, I saw that holding it too close you can hear the ``p`` sounds alot
more. Wondering your thoughts.
7. Is a shock mount necessary on a mic? I have a pop filter on my Yeti mic and a boom arm and
find that its a lot better. Just wondering if extra is needed or what I use is fine.
A shock mount is not necessary, but it can help to reduce noise caused by vibrations. If you're
happy with the sound of your recordings, then you don't need to get a shock mount.
Compressor settings - what is the average good values to stay between, I noticed I cross
over 0 (red zone) quite a bit. Does compressor reduce that number or did I have the mic
too close?
10. Eliminate as much clicking and ssssss sounds. There is a feature for de-clicking and de-essing,
but wondering if there is something more that can be done (I have noticed little changes)
If you're still hearing clicking and sssss sounds after using the de-clicking and de-essing features,
you can try using a more specialized software, such as Adobe audition (see video)
Adobe audition and Reaper is a great software to use with Audacity to improve the quality of your
recordings. It has a variety of tools that can help you to eliminate noise, improve the sound of your
voice, and more.
I saw your videos are in Adobe audition, is it not the same as audacity? The features are quite
similar so why Adobe then?
12. What do I have to edit in Audacity, or can I simply click record, have a feature and go along?
You can simply click record and have a feature in Audacity, but you may need to adjust the
settings to get the best results. For example, if you're using the noise reduction effect, you may
need to adjust the threshold and reduction sliders to find a setting that works for your
recording.
I was thinking there was a video on this, but what I did is I made the adjustments, and every
time I open a new Audacity it does not save those features. So I have to do it all again.
13. Best platform to update to post podcast on? I only know of Spotify, what file type would I
need and is there any changes to the MP3 file on different platforms?
The best platform to post your podcast on is the one that your target audience uses the most.
However, some popular podcast platforms include:
Spotify
Apple Podcasts
Google Podcasts
Amazon Music
Stitcher
Podbean
To post your podcast on a platform, you will need to create an account and submit your RSS
feed. Your RSS feed is a file that contains information about your podcast, such as the title,
description, and episode links.
The file type that you need to submit to podcast platforms is MP3. However, some platforms
may also accept other file types, such as AAC and FLAC.
There are some minor differences in MP3 files on different platforms. For example, some
platforms may require a certain bitrate or sample rate. However, most podcast platforms will
accept any MP3 file that is of good quality.
Here are some tips for posting your podcast on different platforms:
These are the features I was using from what I saw from others, but I have no idea if this is good,
because your audio sounded so much better.
I see others mention Treble boost, Low Rolloff for Speech, unsure if those are necessary.
Future Work
What is your average price for a recording between 10-20 minutes of work?
If I was to do a longer recording, lets say 1 hour and I wanted it split to 4-5 different recordings
of 10 minutes, is this possible? Does the price of that change?
