Script Help

Kane is a high school student who is struggling to finish all of his school projects by the upcoming deadline. He is distracted by strange noises and visions of a dark figure. After being encouraged to just try while playing basketball, Kane finds the motivation to start working. Through persistent writing and crumpling of drafts, Kane is able to complete his assignments. In the end, he no longer sees the dark figure and has gained confidence in his abilities.

INT.

BEDROOM- NIGHT

A teenage boy is typing away at a computer in a dark room as


whispers can be heard around him. The sound of a door closing
can be heard offscreen.

Kane, A High school student, 17, constantly swamped by work


is startled by the sound.

KANE
What was that? Is someone there?

He goes off camera to check the door to his room.

INT. ROOM- DOORWAY

Kane opens the already closed door with a look of confusion.

KANE
That's weird, I could have sworn it
was opened. Was it actually my door?
(as looks behind himself, turns around
and starts walking off screen once
more on his way to check on the
closet)

The closet door is opened as a hand can be seen inside


creepily grasping the door from inside to out.

KANE
(visibly frightened) What the hell.
Please don't be back. (falls back onto
his back) Why don't you leave me
alone. (curls up)

A dark figure can be seen walking towards him from the


closet.

CUT AWAY:

EXT. YARD- DAY

Kane sits on the steps of his front door looking at the sky.
He checks his phone as you can see the dark figure through
the door.

KANE
I gotta head out now. I need to find a
way finish all these projects by next
week. (Pulls out a piece of paper from
his pocket) How am I gonna get more

than a month's worth of work done in


less than a week. I can't even finish
an essay in a day without getting
distracted by something.

Kane sighs before standing up to go on his walk to school.

FADE IN:

EXT. STREET- DAY

As Kane walks past a park basketball rolls into his leg.

KANE
You guys dropped this! (prepares to
toss it back to them)

BASKETBALL PLAYER #1
Don't bother passing it, just shoot
it.

KANE
You sure? I'm not really great at
basketball and-

BASKETBALL PLAYER #3
Just throw it man. Stop thinking about
what you can't do and just do it.
You'll never be ready unless you give
it a shot.

Kane take a deep breathe before shooting and makes the shot.
He begins looking at his hands.

BASKETBALL PLAYER #2
Holy Hell dude, try that over here.

#2 motions for Kane to walk to a different position of the


court instead of the entrance. Kane walks over slightly
confused.

KANE
You sure it's, ok? I'm just
interrupting your game.

BASKETBALL PLAYER #1
Just shut up and shoot.

Kane shoots and makes it once more. They all begin moving him
to different spot on the court and begins playing a small
game of horse. The dark figure being more distant with each

shot and position. After a while of playing ball with the


group of players Kane departs to the library with the dark
figure slightly out of frame.

INT. BEDROOM- NIGHT

We see Kane writing something down on paper and crumpling the


paper in frustration.

KANE
I still can't do it, no matter how
hard I try.

He looks over to the trash can he has in his room. He stares


at the trash for a moment before making the shot and getting
it inside of the trash. He goes back to writing.

A COLLAGE OF KANE WRITING DOWN THINGS ON PAPER AND TOSSING


SOME CRUMPLED PAPER INTO THE TRASH WITH A PICTURE OF A LOTUS
GAINING MORE PETALS IN THE BACKGROUND

After the collage ends, Kane lying in bed with a finished


research project and essay lies next to him as he sighs.

KANE
I can't believe I actually finished
this thing. I thought it'd take so
much longer.

Kane stares at his project before the camera pans over to the
garbage can that is overflowing with crumpled papers. Kane
then sits up before moving his attention to the closet. Kane
stands up and walks to the closet before opening it without
hesitation. As the closet swings open it looks to be normal
with no figure inside whatsoever. Kane takes a deep breathe
before going back to sit on his bed and picking up a notebook
and begins to draw something. He finishes the drawing and
walks offscreen before the camera moves to look at the now
identified drawing of a lotus.

End. . .
