CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Mobile applications are today's powerful apps that have become a vital part of

day-to-day lives. They provide comfort and convenience to many tasks that otherwise can

take plenty of time or effort.With the relevant apps, a person can play games, watch

movies, listen to music, and also access educational and professional resources.

The availability of mobile technology and mobile applications have a significant

effect on the educational activities of students. Technology has been essential in changing

traditional teaching methods in classrooms and has also proven to increase productivity

and student engagement.

Understanding the impact of mobile apps on the academic and social development

of children and adolescents is crucial for creating a supportive and healthy learning

environment for them.Mobile applications and technologies have also created a new form

of learning that allows more engaged and individualized learning activities.

Among the many domains impacted, education has witnessed a significant shift

due to the widespread use of mobile applications. These applications offer new avenues

for learning, collaboration, and access to information.

Mobile applications can provide many benefits, it is important to use them in

moderation and to be aware of their potential negative impacts on mental and physical

health, productivity, and social relationships.


Mobile applications are applications that are designed and created for mobile

devices. They have become increasingly popular in recent years because they offer users

anywhere, as well as provide entertainment, such as gaming and social media.

effect of mobile application use among grade 10 students has been one of the more

Therefore it is important to continue to study the effect of mobile application use

among Grade 10 students in order to help ensure that the positive effects are maximized,

Mobile applications , in particular have played a considerable role in transforming

the way people interact and access information. These applications have become essential

tools for many students in their academic life, helping them to access educational

resources, take notes, and even engage in interactive learning activities.

Objectives of the Study

This study aims to investigate the effects of mobile applications on Grade 10

students of President Diosdado Macapagal High School for the school year 2022-2023.

Specifically, it aimed to:

1. To determine the attitude of the Grade 10 students towards mobile applications.

2. To identify the learning benefits gained by Grade 10 students from the use of mobile

applications.

3. To analyze the impact of mobile applications among Grade 10 students.

4. To find out if Mobile Applications affect the way how the students communicate with

other students.

5. To provide recommendations and strategies for the responsible and effective use of

mobile applications among Grade 10 students


By using mobile applications, students can easily access a wealth of educational

resources, such as digital textbooks, internet-based encyclopedias, and online study

guides. Through these applications, they can also keep track of their homework

assignments, notes, and deadlines.

Moreover, some mobile applications help parents stay in touch with their children

by giving them access to their student’s grades, course progress, and academic calendar.

Finally, mobile applications can provide students with online forums and support groups

where they can share their experiences and challenges, and gain valuable advice and

insights from other students.

By leveraging these resources, Grade 10 students of President Diosdado Macapagal

Highschool can develop their critical thinking skills, build self-discipline, and become

more responsible for their academic success. A mobile application can make your task

easy for you and also saves a lot of time.

Significance of the Study

This study refers to the importance or relevance of the research. It includes an

inform decisions. This study holds significant importance due to the following reasons:

Educational Institutions. This may provide mobile applications that offer students

access to course materials, virtual classrooms, streaming lectures, interactive learning

activities, test taking options, and other educational resources.


Additionally, institutions may also provide student support services such as

counseling, career guidance, and financial aid services via a mobile application.

Institutions can also develop mobile applications to promote student engagement,

facilitate collaboration, and create a safe and secure learning environment for students.

Parents. This may guide parents in supervising and guiding their children’s mobile

application usage for optimal educational and social outcomes. Parents should

demonstrate to their children how to use digital applications responsibly and safely.

Have discussions with children about appropriate language and behavior when

using mobile applications. Remind them that their online and mobile presence reflects

them and should be treated as if they were in a public space.

Monitor what applications children are using. Ask their children which apps they

are downloading, why, and how they are using them. This may help lead to conversations

about safety, online privacy, and responsible online behavior.

sources, those which have been found are relevant to this study.

10 students' mobile application usage and its impact. The researchers employed a

structured questionnaire to collect data from a total of 95 students.

concepts more easily. Well-designed educational apps can increase student engagement

order to avoid becoming overwhelmed. Overall, the effects of mobile applications on

Research Design

This research employs a methods approach, this study will be use quantitative

data collection methods. This approach allows for a comprehensive exploration of the
effects of mobile applications on grade 10 students in President Diosdado Macapagal

High School.

Participants

The participants in this study are grade 10 students from President Diosdado

Macapagal High School. A sample size will be determined based on the available

population and feasibility of data collection. The participants will be selected using a

random sampling technique to ensure representativeness.

Data Collection Procedures

The data collection process involves quantitative methods. The quantitative

method can be used to measure the impact of mobile applications on students by

quantifying and analyzing data collected from a sample of students. Data collected can

include the number of students who use mobile applications in their daily life, the

frequency of their usage.

The collected data can then be compared to other data pertaining to performance,

academic outcomes, and attitudes toward education to determine if there is any

their academic performance.


Additionally, they have access to messages, groups, and events, helping to build a

sense of engagement and community in their classes. Too much time spent engaging with

apps has been found to lead to a decrease in focus resulting in lower grades.

CHAPTER III

CONCLUSION

This research examined the effects of mobile applications on grade 10 students in

President Diosdado Macapagal High School. The findings revealed that mobile

applications have a negative impact on academic performance and learning outcomes

among the students.

The integration of mobile applications in education has brought about a major shift

in the teaching-learning process. It has created new opportunities for students to access

educational resources anywhere, anytime.

However, it is important to ensure that mobile applications are used in a

responsible manner to maximize their benefits and minimize their drawbacks. Students

reported increased screen time and potential negative effects on physical health,

highlighting the need to promote responsible usage and manage screen time effectively.

Schools should offer support and resources to help students manage their digital

media intake and promote healthy online behaviors.


It is crucial to strike a balance between academic tasks and recreational use of

mobile applications. The results of this study indicate that the use of mobile applications

had a significant effect on the academic performance of grade 10 students in President

Diosdado Macapagal High School.

Recommendations

Based on the findings of this study, the following recommendations are proposed:

1. Integration of mobile applications in the education sector

Educational institutions should integrate mobile learning environments into their

curricula. This can help students to access educational resources on the go, thus

improving their academic performance.

2. Mobile application training for teachers

Teachers should receive training on the use of mobile applications in education,

which can help them to design appropriate mobile learning environments that cater to the

needs of students.

3. Parents and teachers should work together

Parents and teachers should work together to ensure that mobile applications are

used in a responsible manner. They should guide students on which mobile applications

are appropriate for academic purposes and which should be avoided.

4. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation

Educational institutions should regularly monitor and evaluate the effectiveness

of mobile applications in enhancing student learning and academic performance. This


will help them to make appropriate changes and improvements in their mobile learning

environments, thus ensuring that students receive the best education possible.

Findings

The research methodology used in this study comprised questionnaires grade 10

high school students from President Diosdado Macapagal High School as well as their

teachers. It was found that the use of mobile applications had a negative effect on the

academic performance of the students tested, both in terms of their knowledge and test

results.

The following findings shows the negative effect of Mobile Applications;

1. Mobile applications can become a major distraction in class or while completing

schoolwork.

2. Constant access to notifications can lead to decreased productivity and concentration.

3. Mental health issues such as reduced social interaction, increased symptoms of stress

and anxiety, and lower self-esteem can occur due to heavy mobile application use.

4. Prolonged exposure to mobile technology has been linked to sleep deprivation in

teenagers.

5. Addiction to mobile applications can lead to psychological dependence and withdrawal

from primary activities.


Specifically, students who used mobile applications showed improved time

management skills, an ability to multitask, increased productivity, better access to

textbooks and other resources, and improved understanding of concepts.
