Assignment 2

The document outlines 12 assignment questions involving calculating displacements and stresses for 2D solids using hand calculations and finite element analysis software. Students are asked to model plane stress problems using constant strain triangular elements, compare the results, and present the comparison in plots. Parameters like thickness, modulus of elasticity, and Poisson's ratio are provided.

ASSIGNMENT 2

Q1. (a) Using the hand calculation determine the displacements at the nodes for the following
2D solid continuum considering a constant thickness of 25 mm, Poisson’s ratio, μ as 0.25 and
modulus of elasticity E as 2 x 105 N/mm2. The continuum is discretised with two CST plane

(b) Simulate the above problem using the Ansys Workbench and discuss the results. Also
compare the simulation results with that obtained through hand calculation. Present the
comparison in plots using MATLAB (or MS Excel). [CO5]
