General Instructions:
i. This question paper consists of 39 questions in 5 sections.
ii. All questions are compulsory. However, an internal choice is provided in some questions. A student is
expected to attempt only one of these questions.
iii. Section A consists of 20 objective type questions carrying 1 mark each.
iv. Section B consists of 6 Very Short questions carrying 02 marks each. Answers to these questions should be
in the range of 30 to 50 words.
v. Section C consists of 7 Short Answer type questions carrying 03 marks each. Answers to these questions
should be in the range of 50 to 80 words.
vi. Section D consists of 3 Long Answer type questions carrying 05 marks each. Answer to these questions
should be in the range of 80 to 120 words.
vii. Section E consists of 3 source-based/case-based units of assessment of 04 marks each with sub-parts.

27 a. The blue colour of crystals of a substance on heating in a closed test tube gets changed but the colour
was regained after sometime on cooling. Name that substance and write its chemical formula. Explain
the phenomenon involved.
b. Write name and chemical formulae of two such compounds whose one unit is associated with 10 and
2 water molecules respectively.

A substance ‘X’ is used as antacid reacts with hydrochloric acid to produce a gas W which is used in
fire extinguishers:
a. Name the substance X and ‘Y’.
b. Write a balanced equation of the reaction between X and hydrochloric acid.

(b) The current through a resistor is made three times its initial value. Calculate how it will affect the heat
produced in the resistor.
(c) Find the increase in the amount of heat generated in a conductor if another conductor of double
resistance is connected in the circuit keeping all other factors unchanged.
33 Two bulbs A and B are rated as 90W–120V and 60W–120V respectively. They are connected in parallel
across a 120V source. Find the current in each bulb. Which bulb will consume more energy? Also find the
resistance offered by both bulbs.

34 Write balanced chemical equations for the following:


a. Bleaching powder is kept open in air.
b. Blue crystals of copper sulphate are heated.
c. Chlorine gas is passed through dry slaked lime.
d. Carbon dioxide gas is passed through lime water.
e. NaOH solution is heated with zinc granules.

a. A metal compound ‘X’ reacts with dilute H2SO4 to produce effervescence. The gas evolved extinguishes
a burning candle. If one of the compounds formed is calcium sulphate, then what is ‘X’ and the gas
evolved? Also write a balanced chemical equation for the reaction which has occurred.

suggest how he can be helped to overcome this disability?
(b) The far point of a myopic person is 150 cm in front of the eye. Calculate the focal length and power
of a lens required to enable him to see distant objects clearly.

37 A student has a compound ‘W’ having molecular formula C2H6O which on reaction with dil. Sulphuric
acid converts to ‘X’ having molecular formula C2H4 which on reaction with Hydrogen gas in presence of
Nickel gives ‘Y’ having molecular formula C2H6. Compound ‘Z’ when placed in sun light reacts with
chlorine gas to give a compound ‘Z’.

38 Amit has shifted to an apartment in which he has 5 bulbs rated 8W each, 2 fans rated 100W each, a
refrigerator rated 500W, a T.V. rated 250 W and a electric heater rated 2000W. he uses bulbs 8 hours a day,
fans 10 hours a day, refrigerator for 6 hours a day, T.V. for 2 hours a day and heater for 30 minutes a day.
He pays Rs. 1023 for 30 days as bill to the landlord.
(a) What is total power used by Amit per day and for the month (30 days)
(b) Calculate the rate at which landlord charges per kWh
(c) In which connection these all appliances are connected and write one of its advantage.

39 The two sexes participating in sexual reproduction must be somewhat different from each other for a number
of reasons. How is the sex of a newborn individual determined? Different species use very different strategies
for this. Some rely entirely on environmental cues. Thus, in some animals like a few reptiles, the temperature
at which fertilised eggs are kept determines whether the animals developing in the eggs will be male or
female. In other animals, such as snails, individuals can change sex, indicating that sex is not genetically
determined. However, in human beings, the sex of the individual is largely genetically determined. In other
words, the genes inherited from our parents decide whether we will be boys or girls.
