Petra20: I recently discovered graphic novels when my friend Joe lent me

Mooncakes to read. I had never seen this kind of book before.
Graphic novels combine plot and incredible artwork. These
illustrations really bring the stories to life. Mooncakes is a wonderful
fairy tale. In it, Nova the teenage witch finds her old friend Tam the
werewolf in the forest. Together, they fight bad spirits – and also fall
in love. I can’t wait to read more graphic novels! Can you please
share your favourites?
Kate111: I loved Grand Theft Horse by Greg Neri and illustrated by Corban
Wilkin. It’s the true story of Gail Ruffu, a member of Neri’s family.
Gail trained racehorses and she owned one called Urgent Envoy
together with some other people. Gail loved the horse, but felt the
other owners were pushing him too hard. She was afraid he’d get
hurt, so she ran away with him. There was a long court case, but
Gail didn’t quit fighting to protect the horse she loved. What
an inspiring story!
Petra20: Thanks, Kate. I must read that!
Jack222: Try Through the Woods by Emily Carroll. There are five fairy tales
in the book, but they’re not ordinary ones. In these horror stories,
the characters uncover terrible secrets. In Our Neighbour’s House,
for example, sisters visit a neighbour and discover that he isn’t
human. Carroll creates drama by using only black, white, red and
blue in her illustrations. The effect is thrilling and scary. Maybe you
should avoid reading this book late at night!
Petra20: Sounds like an exciting book, but too frightening for me!
Mario909: You should read Monster, an adaptation of the famous novel by
Walter Dean Myers. It’s about Steve Harmon, a 16-year-old
African-American boy. The police captured him and put him in
juvenile prison because they believed he had murdered someone.
Now he’s waiting for his court case to end. Is he guilty or innocent?
You’ll have to read the book and decide for yourself.
Petra20: Thanks - I will!
