1. University of Calicut

The University of Calicut is the Iargest University in Kerala. Established in the year 1968, it is
the second university to be set up in Kerala. The University aims to nuture excellence in
education and research in its catchment areas of Northern Kerala, historically consigned to the
periphery of Kerala's academic map. The University lays its emphasis on fostering quality
human resource and promoting productive research that benefit both local communities and
wider humanity.
The University was created through a Govemment plan bifurcating Kerala University. As per
the plan, the four post-graduate departments of the University of Kerala operating in Calicut
were annexed to the new University along with fifty four constituent colleges spread across
seven nonhern districts. With 'Nirmaya Karmana Sree' as it motto, the University has been
able to surmount all challenges and emerge as the largest residential cum affiliating University
in Kerala. With 30 post graduate departments and 480 colleges it has become a beacon of hope
and enlightenment for hundreds of thousands of young men and women in North Kerala.

The University campus,located at Tenhipalarr,24 km south of Calicut is the main hub of


academic activities. Situated here besides the 28 postgraduate teaching and research
departrnents are: the Vice-Chancello.r's Office, the Administation Block, Pareeksha Bhavan,
School of Distance Education, Academic Staff College, Educational and Multimedia Research
Centre, Computer Centre, and the University Library. The departments on the campus include
Arabic, Botany, Biotechnology, Centre for Women Studies, Chemistry Commerce &
Management Studies, Computer Science, Education, English, Hindi, History WestAsian
Studies, Mass Communication & Journalism, Life Science, Library and Information Science,
Life Long Learning & Extension, Malayalam and Kerala Studies, Mathematics, Nano Science
& Technology, Philosophy, Physics, Physical Education, Psychology, Russian & Cenne for
Comparative Literature, Sanskrit, School of Folklore Studies, Statistics, and Zoology.

2. The School of Distance Education

The School of Distance Education, formerly known as the 'Institute of Correspondence


Courses and Continuing Education', University of Calicut, started functioning in the Academic
year 1981-82. Now it is one of the major Departments of the university and has also emerged
as one of the major distance education providers. SDE is making all its effort to extend its
support to reach the unreache and has been keen in providing facilities in distance mode for
the benefit of the deprived sections of the society. It caters to the needs of thousands of
students from various parts of the country

Vision

The School of Distance Education shall endeavour to create novel realms of education
embracing c.reativity and innovations to enhance access to and reach of quality higher
education.

Mission

To provide distance learning oppornrnities to the unreached and enable them to pursue quality
higher education leading to competence of a high order

Details of the Proposed M.A Hindi Programme

(a) Programme's mission & objectives:

3.1 Mission and Objectives

MA Hindi Distance education also is known as Master of Arts in Hindi is a course that falls in
undergraduate programs. Hindi is a language made up of mostly Sanskrit language along with
Urdu etc. Hindi is the official language of India. After doing the course, students can easily
find many jobs in India. It is availabie in regular as well as distance.

On MA Hindi distance education basis the course is easy to be done since Students is not
required to go to the colleges and universities for classes. All the materials and projects are
given to you wither on the intemet or th-rough a post. Several distance colleges also have
study circles and if there is one near your area, you can join weekend classes there. The fee of
the course on distance education is low as compared to the formal course. When you do MA
Hindi distance education, you have to right to choose which topic is to be learnt fkst and
which one afterwards. In this way, you find a way to study on your choice only.
Who should do the course MAHindi:-
. The candidates who have a core interest in Hindi can join the course.
. The ones who are willing to be the teacher in future can join the course.
. Anyone who wishes to study further in Hindi as a subject can step forward MA in
Hindi.
. Hindi research field is the great option for the career. Therefore any student willing to
go into a research field in Hindi can join the course.

Advantages:-

. It broadens the outlook of the student and raises in them a sense of confidence and
responsibility
. After the course is done, there is a reputation in the society and hence the candidates
can understand the society better than before.
. The writing skill is enhanced with this course.
. Candidates can also go in joumalism field after the course is done provided if the
writing skill is better
. Students can try for teaching jobs after the course. One can quite easily access Hindi
literature and conveniently refer the general public to take lessons from their legendary
personalities and Iiterary material
. The country gets prestige and an influencing image from very basic things

Among all drivers, national language has greater importance for nation building and to
intrigue patriotic spirit within an individual.

. Learning about historical achievements of a nation provides necessary.resolve to


uphold that legacy and motivate to quest harder to strengthen the thread of presidential
record.
. Widespread acceptance and popularity of Hindi language and literature help to easily seek
job opporrunities after acquiring a degree in Hindi.
. Being official language of many states and provinces also niakes job market less
competitive for the degree holders.

3.2 Relevance of the programme with HEI's Mission and Goals:

MA Hindi in the distance mode will be a feeder prograrnme for the MA Hindi prograrnmes
offered by the university, and it follows the same syllabus and curriculum of the programme
offered in the regular mode through the affiliated colleges of the University of Calicut

3.3 Nature of prospective target group of learners

A MA Programme in Hindi, Hindi Language and Jiterature has wide demand, and only a
small percentage of the students are being accommodated in the regular mode through
colleges. This will join the attempt to democratising higher education to large segments of the
population, providing an innovative system of university levei education that is flexible and
open in terms of methods, place of learning, eligibility for enrolment and age of entry.

Understanding the needs of the learners we have structured our }earning material induction
programmes to lead the fresh learners through threshold of higher education, and lead them
through the course of the programme and the final evaluation.
3.4 Appropriateness of programme to be conducted in Open and distance Learning
mode to acquire specific skills and competence:
The MA Hindi programme will see to ensure the fallowing skills and competences in the
learners.


To make the student a human being in the colrect sense of the word


To make them ready to face the present day world ambiguities and
contradictions.
3. To make them empathetic and sympathetic towards feilow human
beings
4. To make them understand the society better and ready them to full fill
their duties and responsibilities towards the society
5. To train them in the field of uanslation so that &ey can use the
expertise thus gained to enrich Malayalam and Hindi literature through
translation
6。 To channeli?e their creative writing abilities towards writing in Hindi
so as to enable them to contribute towards Indian literature
7. To inspire them to use their energy and creative ability for the up
liftment of the poor and downtrodden among the society
8. To make them able to communicate in Hindi fluently so that they can
perform their duties better when they are outside Kerala
9. To train them in the fields of Journaiism and media writing so that they
can choose them as a professional option
10.To give them training in correspondence and secretarial practice in
Hindi so that they can use the knowledge whenever necessary

3.SInstructional Design:

The MA Hindi prograrnme proposed here is also offered by the university through regular
mode. Also, the programme has been approved by the statutory bodies of the university.
Further, the university is revising the curricuium and syllabi of this progralnme once in every
three years to ensure that the content is updated to reflect current academic knowledge and
practice, and also to ensure that the University used to provide the best learning experiences
possible for students. Academic staff and experts in the area of Hindi propose changes in the
curriculurn and syllabi at the curriculum and syllabus revision workshop generally convened
at least six months before the due date of curriculum s;vllabus revision. Major changes are
then submitted to the Board of Studies of Hindi (Pass) of the University for Final Approval.
As part of curriculum design, the curriculum and syllabus revision workshop considers
curriculum analysis of sociai needs, translating the needs into course, splitting the
objectives, grouping the specific objectives into subjects, deriving the subjects from the
classification, specifying enabling objectives, unitising each subject matter, specification of
required time and syllabus formulation.

3.5.3 Duration of the Programme

TWo years

3.5.4 Faculty and support staff requirement

There are two faculty members for Hindi language in general. One of them is in charye of
MAHindi prograrnme. There is sufficient staff support from the SDE office for processing
administrative work. The service of qualified resource persons and subject experts from
various govepment and aided colleges are utilized after they are approved by the vice
chancellor in the preparation of SLM, coordinating and taking contact classes and conducting
internal evaluation.

3.5.5 Instructional DeHvery Mechanism

In addition to providing self learning material, students are offered L0 contact houls for each
subject, conducted at SDE. Classes are taken using audio visual aids, and students are
encouraged to use web resources

3.5.6 Student Support Service System at SDE

3.6 Procedure for Admissions, Curriculum Ttansaction and Evaluation:

3.6.1 The admission notifications for MA Hindi programme, among others are being issued in
leading national and regional dailies. The detailed information regarding admission is being
given on the SDE website (ww.l,v.sdeuoc.ac.in) and on Calicut University website
(www.univesityofcalicut.info). Students seeking admission shall download application form

3.6.2 Minimum Eligibility for Admission

Eligibility for admission to M.A Hindi Prograrnme is a pass in B.A with Hindi Language as
optional Main under part III securing not less than 45% marks for that part, or BA/BSc with
Hindi as additional language under part lI securing not less than 50% marks for that part I
B.A functional Hindi (Vocational) ,or BA with Hindi as core course securing not less than 4.5
CCPA(S) out of 10, or BA/BSc with Hindi as additional language course securing not less
than 5 CCPA out l-0 for additional Language course /BA functional Hindi (Vocational),. Or
BA with Hindi as core course not less than L.8 CGPA (S) out of 4, BA./BSc with Hindi as
additional language course securing not less than 2CGPA out of 4 additional language course/
BA Functional Hindi (Vocational).

3.6.4 Financial Assistance

Concession for tuition'fee will be given to SC/ST and OEC students. The students belonging
to SC/ST and OEC category will be admitted to the prograrnme without remitting the tuition
fee. The fee for the students thus admitted will be later claimed from SC/SE deparnment as
per the rules laid down by the govemment of Kerala and will be remitted to University of
Calicut

3.6.5 Programme Delivery

The programme is being delivered with the help of SLM and personal contact prograrnmes.
The SLM is being dispatched to the students during each semester by hand or by post. And.at
the end of each semester assignments are given and the marks are included in the ESA

3.7 Requirement of the Library Support and Library Resources

SDE has its own library facility with a total of about 3852 books, L1-65 titles, and 144
reference titles. Further, all the students of the Schooi of Distance Education can make use of
the reference service of the Calicut Universiry Central Library (C.H.Mohammed Koya
Library) in the Campus. Graduates of the Calicut University are eligible to get membership of
the Central Library. They can also make use of the Library at the Univeisity Study Centre
Iocated at P.T. Usha Road, Calicut

3.9 QualityAssurance Mechanism and Expected Programme Outcomes

3.9.1 Quality Assurance Mechanism

The University Board of Studies for MA Hindi Programme approves and reviews the
syllabus, course content, and the self learning material of MA Hindi offered in the distance
mode also. The overall ensuring of quality will be closely monitored by the Centre for
Intemal Qualrty Assurance, School of Distance Education.

The SDE, University of Calicut has devised the following mechanisms for monitoring the
effectiveness of the MA Hindi Programme to enhance its standards of cuniculum,
instructional design etc.

(b) Established a Centre for Internat Quality Assurance (CIQA) at the University level
to develop and put in place a comprehensive and dynamic internal qualtty
assurance system to enhance the quality of the prograrnmes offered through
distance mode as per the norms and guidelines of the University Grants
Commission (Open and Distance Learning) Regulations, 201_7.

(c) The CIQA is periodically conducting institutional quality audits, to promote


quality assurance and enhance as well as spread best-in-class practices of quality
assurance

(d) The SDE has an approved panel of experts for preparing SLM. The SLM prepared
is being edited by the course coordinator. The CIQA also oversees the
development and preparation of SLMs. Then submit the SLMs to the board of
studies concerned for the approval. The SLMs are developed with the approach of
self explanatory self-contained, self directed, self-motivating and self-evaluating.

(e) The SDE of the University has a faculty member exclusively for coordinating MA
Hindi prograrnme. It has a panel of qualified guest teachers for counselling
students and engaging in personal contact prograrnmes in the centres of the
University.
3.9.2 Expected Programme Outcomes

Towards the End of the Programme, Students will be Able to:

. Develop an ability to effectively communicate orally in Hindi

r Develop setf confidence and skills for working independently and in a team

o Have a foundation on Iiterary theories, movements, History of Hindi literature

. Develop the ability to critically look at concepts, beliefs and ideas in society, while
also learning to critically analyse texts and cultural artefacts.

. Have an increase awareness of the general issues prevailing in the society.
