I’m a full-time student so I don’t work, only ON school vacationS or on weekends. Last
summer I worked in a beach buffet on the coast of the Lake Balaton. I worked as a kitchen
helper. I loved this job because my coworkers were very kind and they were students too. We
often did common programs or went to parties. I got along very well with them. I got quite a
high enough salary. My boss was all right in every respect, I couldn’t say anything against
him. He was hard on the staff and required good work from us, but he was very friendly and
helpful. He treated us equally. We had a pleasant and healthy surrounding. It was a nice
atmosphere to work. I worked here for 3 months. I found this job very tiring because we
always worked daily 12 hours daily. So far, I have worked 4 summers as a kitchen helper. I
haven’t done manual work yet. Sometimes, I work on weekends in flexitime, or I work in a
part-time job. I usually work in the catering industry, or I work in a buffet at soccer matches.
It is good for me because I can focus on my education. I haven’t been unemployed, because
my „main job” is studying. In a letter of application, I would give a kind of profile containing
information about my qualifications, schooling, exam results, present and previous jobs, work
experience, and present salary. I would also give the dates when I am free for an interview. It
seems to be fashionable for people to change their jobs. Some people have too much work,
some too little, and others get bored with their jobs and fed up with their colleagues because
of backbiting. People always want more pay and higher positions. If you want to change your
job, you must look at the advertisements in the newspapers, magazines, or periodicals. If you
can’t find the right job for you in them there are careers offices or employment agencies that
may still help you and offer you the kind of job you are looking for. But it is not very likely
today when unemployment is growing. If you are lucky and you think you have found the
right job, you send your curriculum vitae with your qualifications and details of your previous
jobs and go for an interview. At a school, it is usually the headmaster, or in a company, the
personnel manager who interviews the applicants. I last went to an interview on last summer. I
agreed with the boss on my salary and the working hours. He also showed me around the
buffet and told me what my responsibilities would be. As the job and the conditions appealed
to me so I accepted that. I think I can only make a succesS of my job if I am interested in it.
So, this is the most important thing to know that you are doing the right job. Of course, you
should be adequately paid for your work so that you don’t have to work on the side. It’s good
to have responsibility and freedom in decisions, as well as a chance of promotion. But all this
is futile if the atmosphere is that of suspicion, ill-will and grudges. For me, work means a
source of income. My part-time job doesn’t really meet my requirements. It doesn’t use my
abilities or stretch my brain. What I like about this job is that I can work with my friends. At
football matches the fans are often very rude and impolite. I don’t know what kind of job I
want to retire from, yet. When I work in a part-time job, I work about 10 hours. It is always
varies from where to when. I don’t have any breaks during the work. In a soccer match, there
is a lot to do before the game. Me and my colleagues put on the refrigerator, we pack and
clean a lot.
