According to Jean Watson, “Nurses are a unique kind. They have this insatiable need to
care for others, which is both their greatest strength and fatal flaw.” During this exposure, I
learned a lot of things that can mold me as a good student nurse. On our first day, we attended
the mass and waited for our CI at the school umbrella, it was a very fine morning for all of us,
we travelled for about 25 minutes from school to Paglaum Village. We greeted the staffs and
patients as soon as we arrived. I felt very nervous and as well as excited though this is not our
first time but the excitement is still there. We conducted our orientation at the student’s center
and planned for the next day’s activity. During the activity, we noticed that some of the patients
are not cooperating and goes back to their room after the dance therapy. We had a great time
during the first day and plan to be more energetic and engaged the next day. The next day, was
the same as the first one but now we had our remotivation therapy. Today, we want our patient to
be remotivated and be aware about their reality. Today's exposure reinforced the importance of
communication and observation skills. I realize that the role of a nurse in this setting is not just
about administering medication but also about providing emotional support, listening, and
assessing patients' well-being. One challenge I encountered was a reluctance from some patients
to engage in therapy or share their thoughts and feelings. It emphasized the importance of
building trust and rapport over time.
My experience in this exposure is helping me grow as a student nurse. I'm gaining a
deeper understanding of the complexities of mental health care, and I'm beginning to appreciate
the resilience and strength of the patients I'm working with. I'm looking forward to more learning
opportunities in this setting and hope to continue improving my nursing skills and patient care.
On the last day of exposure, culmination day, we prepared a lot of prices and spaghetti to give
out to the patients. We wanted to show our appreciation for cooperating with us in our three-day
exposure here at Bacolod City Mental Health Care Center. As a student nurse in the psychiatric
ward, every day is a journey of learning and self-discovery. I'm gaining a deeper understanding
of the nursing skills required in this specialized area. The resilience and strength of the patients I
interact with are inspiring, and I'm eager to continue developing as a psychiatric nurse. I feel a
sense of fulfillment despite the challenges. I'm looking forward to more opportunities to grow
and contribute to the care and well-being of the patients in the psychiatric nursing setting. I feel
grateful for the learning experiences of the day. I'm eager to apply what I've learned in future
exposure and continue to develop as a student nurse in the psychiatric ward. I would also like to
thank Mr. Tamon for being so funny all the time and as well as a great motivator and a Clinical
Instructor for us. His dedication to teaching, his patience in answering our questions, and his
unwavering commitment to our growth as students have made a significant impact on our
educational journey. His expertise and the way he encourage us to think critically and problem-
solve in real clinical situations have been instrumental in our development as a future healthcare
professional. We appreciate the time he invested in helping us understand complex concepts, his
constructive feedback that encouraged us to improve, and his willingness to share his knowledge
and experiences. His mentorship has not only enhanced my clinical skills but also instilled in us
a deeper passion for patient care and the importance of empathy in our profession.
