c) List down and briefly explain the elements for two dimensional elements
used in FEA.
d) Discuss what is Plane stress and Plane strain conditions with example.
f) Find the shape functions of CST shown in the figure below. Find the
temperature at (2, 2) if the nodal temperatures T1, T2 and T3 are 20OC ,
100OC and 150OC respectively.
g) Evaluate the shape function N1, N2 and N3 at the interior point P for the
triangular element shown in the figure.
h) The nodal co-ordinates of a triangular element are as shown in fig. The
‘x’ co-ordinate of interior point P is 3.3 and shape function N 1 = 0.3.
Determine N2, N3 and ‘Y’ co-ordinates of P.
i) The triangular element has nodal co-ordinates (10, 10), (40, 20) and
(30, 50) for nodes 1, 2 and 3 respectively. For a point P inside the
triangle, determine X and Y co-ordinates if shape functions N1 and N2
are 0.15 0.25 respectively.
j) Find the shape function for the triangular element shown in fig. and
show that the sum of all shape functions is ONE at any point within
the element.

f) Determine the Stiffness matrices for both the elements of truss shown
below:
i) A two member truss is shown in fig. The c/s of each member is 200
mm2 and the modulus of elasticity is 200 GPa. Determine the deflection,
reaction and stresses in each of the member. Lengths are in mm.
j) Analyse the following truss completely for Stress and Strains.
The cross sectional area of each member of truss is 150 mm2.
Modulus of elasticity, E =200 GPa for each element. Lengths are in
mm.
