• This song in triple time can be of any
topic: love, resentment, or a social
commentary.
• It can also be a dance or a
combination of song and dance in
this style.
• It is the oldest and most popular song
among Christian Filipinos.

between a man and a
woman. Danced and
mimed, it is
accompanied by a
song, or the dancers
themselves sing,
improvising the steps
and verses.

 A dialogue or courtship song in triple
meter, mostly in 2 and 3 part forms
and arranged with counter melodies.

 A courtship dance
but it can also refer
to a type of song to
entertain the farmers
in the rice field.

• A lively dance in
duple meter,
performed by
couples.

became popular in Europe and America
in the early 19th century.
• It was performed in elegant evening
gatherings at the height of its popularity
during the Spanish colonial period.

• is a genre of

Filipino love

• (kung hindi man) – an art song
about the love of a man for a
woman but can also be about
patriotic sentiments, the woman
