8
3𝑥 − = 2
𝑥
OR
Find the value of k for the following quadratic equation, so that the roots are
equal. x2 – 3 (k + 1) x + 12k = 0 (3, 1/3)

2 Find the value of x for which 2x, (x + 10) and (3x + 2) are the three consecutive 2
terms of an A.P. (x = 6)

3 The ratio of the volumes of two spheres is 8 : 27. Find the ratio between their 2
surface areas. (4: 9)
OR
12 spheres of the same size are made from melting a solid cylinder of 16 cm
diameter and 2 cm height. Find the diameter of each sphere. (4 cm)

4 A sphere of maximum volume is cut out from a solid hemisphere of radius 12 2

cm. Find the volume of the cut-out sphere. (Use = 3.14) (904.32)

5 A lamp post 5 √3 m high casts a shadow 5 m long on the ground. Find the Sun’s 2
altitude. (60)

6 Find the unknown entries in the following distribution of heights of students in a 2

class:
Also to find the total number of students. (x= 4, y = 16, z= 10, u = 50)
SECTION B
Question numbers 7 to 10 carry 3 marks each.
7 A fast train takes 3 hours less than a slow train for a journey of 600 km. If the 3
speed of the slow train is 10 km/h less than that of the fast train, find the speed
of each train. (50 km/h, 40 km/h)
8 From a point P on the ground, the angle of elevation of the top of a tower is 30° 3
and that of the top of the flagstaff fixed on the top of the tower is 45°. If the
(6.83 m)
length of the flagstaff is 5 m, find the height of the tower. (Use √3 = 1.732)
9 In given figure, AB is the diameter of a circle with centre O and AT is a tangent. If 3
∠AOQ = 58°, find ∠ATQ.

(61)

OR
In the diagram, PQ and QR are tangents to the circle with centre O, at P and R
respectively. Find the value of x.

(x = 45)
10 Draw a pair of tangents to a circle of radius 4 cm which are inclined to each other 3
at an angle of 60⁰. (Length of tangents = 6.9 approx)
OR
Construct a tangent to a circle of radius 4 cm from a point on the concentric
circle of radius 6 cm.
SECTION C
Question numbers 11 to 14 carry 4 marks each.
11 The angle of elevation of a cloud from a point 120 m above a lake is 30⁰ and the 4
angle of depression of its reflection in the lake is 60⁰. Find the height of the cloud.

frequency is 100:

(x = 9; y = 15)
OR

A survey regarding the heights in (cm) of 51 girls of class X of a school was

conducted and the following data was obtained. Find the modal height and
median height.

(Mode = 148.06
Median = 149.03)
13 Case Study – 1 4
Veer wants to participate in a 200 m race. He can currently run that distance in 51
seconds and with each day of practice it takes him 2 seconds less. He wants to do
in 31 seconds.

(i) Write in AP for the given situation. Write the first term and common
difference.

(ii) What is the minimum number of days he needs to practice till his goal is
achieved? (11)
14 Case Study – 2 4

Due to heavy floods in a state, thousands were rendered homeless. 50

schools collectively offered to the state government to provide place
and the canvas for 1500 tents to be fixed by the government and
decided to share the whole expenditure equally. The lower part of each
tent is cylindrical of base radius 2.8 m and height 3.5 m, with conical
upper part of same base radius but of height 2.1 m. If the canvas used
to make the tents costs `120 per sq.m, find the amount shared by each
school to set up the tents. Use π = 22/7. (Rs. 3, 32, 640)
