INTE12232 - Computer Network I - Lab 03 - WLAN

This document provides instructions for creating a wireless network using a wireless access point in Packet Tracer. It involves: 1) Creating a wired network with two PCs, a printer, switch using IPv4 addressing. 2) Creating a wireless network using an access point connected to two laptops wirelessly, also with IPv4 addressing. 3) Connecting the wired and wireless networks by connecting the switch and access point with a cable and testing connectivity between devices on both networks.

Lab 03
Creating a Wireless Network using a Wireless Access Point

Activity 01

1. Create the below network using Packet Tracer.

a. Create a wired network using a switch

i. Devices required - Two PCs (PC1, PC2) , Printer , Cisco Switch and
a Straight Through Copper Cable
ii. Locate the ports of the Ethernet switch and connect the three devices.
Note: Select the ports FastEthernet0/1, FastEthernet0/2,
FastEthernet0/3 when connecting the cables to the switch ports
iii. Test the physical connectivity.
iv. Use the following IPv4 information.

PC Name IP Address Subnet Mask

Printer 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
PC1 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
PC2 192.168.1.3 255.255.255.0

v. Use the ping command to test the logical/IP connectivity between the
three connected devices.
b. Create a wireless network using an access point.
i. Devices required – AP-PT Access Point, Two Laptops (Laptop1,
Laptop2).

ii. Configure the Access Point.

1. Rename the Access Point as Office-AP
2. Click on the Access Point and go to the Config tab
a. Do not change the details for Port 0. Use default settings
b. Do the below changes to Port 1
i. SSID- Office-WiFi
ii. 2.4 GHz channel- 6
iii. Coverage- 140
iv. Authentication- WAP2-PSK
v. PSK Passphrase- 12345678
vi. Encryption- AES

iii. Use the following IPv4 information.

PC Name IP Address Subnet Mask

Laptop1 192.168.1.4 255.255.255.0
Laptop2 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.0
iv. Remove the Ethernet module and replace it with WPC300N Linksys
Wifi module.
Note: Switch Off the laptop before replacing and Switch On the laptop
afterwards. Perform this step to both the laptops.

v. Establish the wireless connectivity between the laptops and the Access
Point.
1. Click on the Laptop and go to the Desktop tab
2. Select PC Wireless
3. Click the Connect tab
4. Click the Refresh button

5. The Office-WiFi network will appear under the available

wireless networks list
6. Select the Office-WiFi network and click Connect
7. Enter 12345678 as the Pre-Shared Key
8. Click the Connect button

Note: Perform the steps 1-8 for both the laptops.

vi. Use the ping command to test the logical/IP connectivity between the
laptops.

c. Connect the wired and wireless networks

i. Devices required - Straight Through Copper Cable
ii. Connect the switch and the access point using the straight through
copper cable
iii. Test the physical connectivity.
iv. Use the ping command to test the logical/IP connectivity between the
wired and wireless network.
