scientists think they can make electricity from plants! If they succeed, it will really be
green electricity!
 We all use batteries all the time, but they damage the environment if you put them in the

*Audio script*
Girl: I’m trying to start an environmental group in this school.

Boy: Good idea. Are you only going to have people from our class, our year or the whole
school?

Girl: I think the committee should just be with people from our class, but then we should include
anyone else who is interested. And we’ll need a teacher to help us but not be on the
committee.

Boy: Do you have a teacher yet?

Girl: Well, our class teacher said she was too busy, and the history teacher said the same. So I
tried the science teacher. He wasn’t interested!

Boy: Gosh!

Girl: Yes. I was surprised. I was ready to ask the geography teacher when the class teacher
changed her mind.

Boy: That’s great!

Girl: She’s already helped us. We can use the classroom on Wednesday lunchtimes for
committee meetings and the hall after school on Mondays for big meetings, or the gym any
evening if it’s empty.

Boy: What do you want the group to do?

Girl: I think the committee should choose projects, like saving paper, electricity, or water. We
need to do some research and then start where the biggest waste is.

Boy: Have you got a name for the group?

Girl: Well, the committee must choose, but we are Greenfield High School, so I think the first
word in that name is perfect.

Boy: Oh, yes! That’s clever.
