This document provides an overview of key concepts in polynomials and circles. It defines polynomials, polynomial functions, and discusses how to identify them. It also examines graphs of polynomial functions and how their behavior is determined by the leading coefficient and degree. The document then covers end behavior of even and odd degree polynomials. It discusses finding x- and y-intercepts of polynomial functions. For circles, it defines basic terms like radius, chord, secant, and tangent lines. It also examines arcs, angles, theorems, and properties of sectors, segments, and lines that intersect circles.

*Polynomial 5x2 + 2y – 7
*Polynomial Equation x2- 3x +2 =0
*Polynomial Function f(x) = x2 – 3x +2

NOT POLYNOMIAL FUNCTION:

NEGATIVE EXPONENT
EXPONENT IS NOT A WHOLE NUMBER
CANNOT BE A RADICAND
VARIABLE CANNOT BE IN THE DEMINATOR

A polynomial function is written in standard form if its terms are

arranged in descending order of powers.

Graphs of Poly Functions

*If the RIGHT HAND of the graph tends UPWARD, the graph is
INCREASING and if the RIGHT HAND of the graph tends
DOWNWARD then the graph is DECREASING

*If the value of the leading coefficient is POSITIVE (𝒂𝒏 > 𝟎), the
graph is increasing and decreasing if the value of the leading
coefficient is NEGATIVE (𝒂𝒏 < 𝟎).

The number of possible turns of the graph is its degree less than 1
(degree n – 1). For example, if the degree of the polynomial function is
4, then the number of turns the graph might have is 3.
END BEHAVIOR

In the graph of an EVEN-degree polynomial that is INCREASING, the

left hand is RISING and the right hand is also RISING. While in an
EVEN-degree polynomial that is DECREASING, the left hand is
FALLING and the right hand is FALLING as well.

In the graph of an ODD-degree polynomial that is INCREASING, the

left hand is FALLING and the right hand is also RISING. While in an
ODD-degree polynomial that is DECREASING, the left hand is RISING
and the right hand is FALLING as well.
X AND Y INTERCEPTS

The y-intercept is the point where the graph crosses the y-axis and
can be found by substituting x = 0. The x-intercepts are points where
the graph crosses the x-axis and can be found by making the function
equal to zero and solving for x.

Parts of Circle

A circle is a set of points on a given plane, which is equidistant from a

fixed point called the center. In naming a circle we use its center.

Radius
a line segment from the center to
any point around the circle, two or
more radius is called radii.

Chord
a line segment whose endpoints are on the circle,
it does not pass through the center of the circle.

Secant Line
is a line that intersects a circle at exactly TWO POINTS
and contains a chord.

Tangent Line
a line the intersects the circle at exactly
one point called the point of tangency.
Arcs of a Circle
Angles of a Circle
An angle is a figure formed by two non-collinear rays. We usually name
angle using the vertex

Secants, Tangents, Segments, and Sectors of a Circle

Sector – may be defined as part of a circle

enclosed by two radii and an arc

Segment - region bounded by an arc and the

segment joining its endpoints.

Tangents of a circle – a line intersects a circle in exactly one point,

then it is tangent line. The point of intersection is called
the point of tangency.

Secant of a circle – line intersecting at exactly two points is called a

secant line, also a secant line contains a chord of a circle .
