IrrigationPump Calculations

This document provides calculations for an irrigation pump system with the following key details: 1) The pump will have a capacity of 8 m3/hr, pump head of 71 psi, and power of 2.43 HP. 2) The pressure vessel volume is calculated to be 1250 liters to accommodate the pump output of 35.2 GPM and pressure of 71 PSI over a 5 minute run time. 3) The total daily water demand for the site is calculated to be 59,453 liters based on plant types, areas, and watering rates, requiring a storage tank of 119 m3 to supply irrigation for 2 days.

IRRIGATION PUMP

Calculation of manual System

Insert No. of Irrigation Pump Will be Used 1 Duty 1 StandBy

Pump Capacity 8 m3/hr
Enter Difference in Head Between Pump & Irrigation Line 0.3 m
Enter Total Lengh Of Irrigation Pipe 250 m

Pump Head = 1.20*(static head + static/10 + total pipe length from pump to farther
irrigation point *4/100+3 bar residual pressure at farther point
= 71 psi

Irrigation Pump Selection :-

Pump Capacity 35.2 GPM
Pump Head 71 Psi
Pump HP 2.43 HP
Pumps 1 Duty 1 StandBy

Pressure Vessel

From above we get pump flow = 35.2 GPM

= 2.222222 L/Sec
& Estimated pressure for boster pump = 71 PSI

it is usual to arrange for pumps to have an ON-OFF cycle of 3-4 min

Pump Capacity should be such that peak water demand is not likely to exceed half the average
pump out put
PVO = 0.5 * APO X time of pump run in seconds
Pump run time 5 mintes - 300 sec

PVO. ( pressure vessel output) = 0.5 * 1.388889 X 300

= 208.3 Liters 300
from boyles low P1 . V 1 = P 2 . V 2 V1 = V1-V2/(1-(P1/P2)
where
P1 = Cut in pressure head = 40 m
P1 = Cut out pressure head = 50 m
Get V1
V1 = 1042 Liters
For Working Volume Say 20%
V1 = 1251 Liters

Volume of Vessel 1250 Liters

Storage tank for 2 days = 119 m3
