Assignment 3

This document provides 7 problems related to kinematics analysis of machines. The problems cover topics like position, velocity, and acceleration analysis of various linkages and mechanisms. This includes determining displacement, velocity, acceleration, angular velocity, and angular acceleration of different points in slider-crank mechanisms, double-slider linkages, and other linkages using concepts like vector equations and vector polygons. Instantaneous centers are also located for some mechanisms.

Kinematics of Machines (AM13102)

B. Tech. (3rd Semester) Production Engineering
Session 2023-24
(Position, Velocity and Acceleration analysis)

1. A. Find the position difference to point P from point Q on the curve, y=x2+x-16, where R xP=2∧R xQ=4.
2
jπ t
B. The location of a point is defined by the equation R=( 4 t +2 ) e 30 ,where t is time in seconds. Motion of the point is
initiated when t=0. What is the displacement during the first 3 sec. Find the change in angular orientation of the
position vector during the same time interval.

2. A. Consider a sliding-block linkage in the posture illustrated in Fig. below. Perform the posture analysis; that is, find
θ4 and distance RAO4.

3. Plot the path of point P for: (a) inverted slider-crank linkage; (c) Scott-Russell straight-line linkage shown below:

(a) (b)
4. In the mechanism shown below, link 2 is rotating CW at the rate of 4 rad/s (constant). In the Position shown, θ=53°.
Write the appropriate vector equations, solve them using vector polygons, and
a) Determine VC , ω3, and ω4.

b) Determine aC , α3, and α4.

5. In the mechanism shown below, link 4 is moving to the left at the rate of 0.6 ft/s (constant). Write the appropriate
vector equations, solve them using vector polygons, and determine the velocity and acceleration of point A3.
Link lengths: AB = 5 in, BC = 5 in.

6. For the double-slider linkage in the posture shown, the angular velocity of the input crank 2 is 42 rad/s cw. Find the
velocities of points B, C, and D.

7. Locate all instant centers for the linkage of Problem 6.

8. Locate all instantaneous centers for the linkage shown in problem10.

9. For the 6 bar linkage with O2B=1, BD=1.5, DC=3.5, DO6=3, and h=1.3 in. Find the angular acceleration of link 6 if ω2 is a
constant 1 rad/sec.
