SAP CONTENT SERVER MONITORING

Introduction
SAP Solution Manager 7.2 supports SAP Content Server 6.40/6.50/7.53 with System Monitoring. This
document describes how to setup and configure System Monitoring in the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 for
SAP Content Server 6.40, 6.50 and 7.53.

Up-to-date version of this document is attached to the SAP note 1895715.

SAP CONTENT SERVER MONITORING

Setup procedure overview

From the point of view of the System Monitoring, SAP Content Server system consists of several server
components. The database (MaxDB) is the core component of an SAP Content Server installation. SAP
Content Server uses also the following server components: Microsoft ISS components on Windows and
Apache HTTP Server on UNIX for 6.40/6.50, and SAP Web Dispatcher based server for the 7.53 release.
With the SAP Solution Manager 7.2 you can monitor the system’s database and the server components: MS
ISS on Windows and SAP Web Dispatcher. No monitoring is available for Apache HTTP server.

In overall, SAP Content Server as a technical scenario comprising following systems:

· SAP Content Server system (either the Unspecific Standalone System or SAP Web Dispatcher) as the
representation of the server components.
· the system database
· MS IIS system on Windows

Perform following steps listed to set up System Monitoring for SAP CONTENT SERVER system (on Windows)

Step 1 Ÿ Install Diagnostics Agent

Step 2 Ÿ Register SAP CONTENT SERVER in SAP Solution Manager

Step 3 Ÿ Run Managed System Setup

Step 4 Ÿ Run Technical Monitoring Setup

1. Install Diagnostics Agent

Please refer to SAP note 1365123 Installation of Diagnostics Agents.

Diagnostics Agent 7.3 installs automatically SAP Host Agent. Please make sure, however, that SAP Host
Agent corresponds to the version in the SAP note 1448655. In addition, please refer to SAP Note 1031096
“Installing Package SAPHOSTAGENT” for details.

2. Register SAP CONTENT SERVER in SAP Solution Manager

SAP Content Server does not provide automatic registration to SLD. The system is to be created manually
in the SAP Solution Manager. With the Technical System Editor UI in SAP Solution Manager 7.2 you can
manually create, change, and delete technical systems in the LMDB.

Perform following activities to register the SAP Content Server system in SAP Solution Manager:

7
SAP CONTENT SERVER MONITORING

1. In the SAP Solution Manager Configuration (transaction SOLMAN_SETUP), choose Managed

Systems Configuration à Technical Systems à System Operations àCreate System.
2. Select a system type from the input help.
3. Define system data like system name and the host there the system is installed
4. Assign a unique system identifier.
5. Create the system
6. Specify required system properties like the installation path.
7. Add the product instance and set it as Diagnostics Relevant.
8. Add SAP Content Server software component version.

More Information

For more information, see Landscape Data Management Overview and Maintenance of Product in the
System Landscape in the SAP Community Network.

2.1 Register SAP CONTENT SERVER 6.40/6.50 in SAP Solution Manager

SAP Content Server 6.40/6.50 is to be registered as an Unspecific Standalone System.

Select System type

Select “Unspecific Standalone Application System” as the system type.

Define System
Specify the main system properties in the “Define System” step.

- Assign a system name – a unique identifier of the new system in the LMDB.
- Select the “Others” as the technology type for the system.
- Specify the host name of the SAP Content Server system.

Define Extended SID

Specify an appropriate extended system ID and choose next.

An extended system ID is a system-type specific identifier of eight characters that is unique in the SAP
Solution Manager. An extended system ID value is automatically proposed so you can accept it.

Confirmation
Choose Save to create new SAP Content Server system

Specify additional system properties

In the System Overview add the installation patch of the SAP Content Server system.

Assign Database to the technical system.

Explore the node “System Database” in the navigation tree. Assign a system database to the technical
system. The SAP CONTENT SERVER system’s database is MaxDB and its information will be automatically
delivered to Solution Manager by Diagnostics Agent’s outside discovery. For components for which no
automatic registration on SLD can be established, SAP Solution Manager provides the outside discovery
approach. With the outside discovery the Diagnostics Agent automatically collects and stores the
information related the monitored system in the Solution Manager. The data is reported to the LMDB and
is not available in the SLD. The registration exists only in the Solution Manager system. Outside discovery is
currently available for DBMS, operating systems and Microsoft ISS/.NET components.

Click on the “Assign System Database” button and select the correct database system from the list.
