II. CONTENT
Topic – Identifying Genres of a Material Viewed
Introduction
We love to watch different movies or video clips but most of the time,
we usually focus on the superficial elements: the setting, characters, plot,
point of view, and themes. This module will help you identify not only the
elements but also the different genres.
You might not be able to view specific movies here considering your
internet issues, but this module will help you become aware of the different
genres of the movies you love and even plan to watch. It’s definitely true that
we can’t judge the book by its cover, but here, you will deal with pictures of
different movies and short situations. The pictures are carefully chosen for
you to identify the genres quickly.

B. Engagement
Motivation
Ask the learners:
1. Do you love to watch movies or video clips?
2. What type of movies or video clips do you want to see? Why?
Say: In this lesson, we are going to deal with movies or video clips, but
before everything else, let us have our first activity.
Do “Guess It Activity”.
Group the learners into three and distribute the needed materials for
each group. Let them guess the type of movie the titles presented and
paste them on the manila paper. Works should be posted and to be
reported in front.
Presentation
After the group presentation, ask the following questions:
1. What do you think are those things written on the strips of
paper?
2. How about those written on the manila paper, what are they?
3. Was it hard for you to identify what type of movie those titles
are? Why or why not?
C. Exploration
This time, another activity will be introduced to deepen the
understanding of the learners. This is titled “Identify It!”. Distribute sets of
tagboards with the type to the different groups. As the pictures and
titles of movies will be flashed on the screen, the group will write the type
and raise their tagboard with the correct answer.
The following pictures will be flashed on the screen:
D. Explanation
Group the learners into 8. Assign each group with a specific genre to
talk about. Let them present their output in a creative way (either newscasting,

readers’ theater).
The following are the genres which will be assigned to the groups.

comedy
fantasy
horror

NOTE: After the presentation, the teacher gives feedback and short follow-up
discussion.

E. Elaboration
Generalization and Application
Say: You’re already good in identifying the genres through the given
keywords. Now, I’m going to flash reading selections on the screen. If
these reading selections were scenes from movies, what genres are
they? Remember that the boxes are clues to help you give the correct
answer. (Note: Propel happens here)
(Here’s another way of presenting this activity: Divide the class
into five then give one situation each. Please don’t include the clues
anymore. Let the groups read the situation, discuss, and identify the
genre. The output is then reported in front of the class.)

5. In a small town, clumsy farmer Mang Kanor tried a self-
operating lawnmower, but it went wild, chasing chickens and
causing chaos. The townsfolk laughed as Bob attempted to lasso
it. With their help, he finally caught it. Though the grass
remained uncut, the town had a day of laughter, and Bob
learned to stick with old-fashioned methods, vowing never to
trust a self-operating lawnmower again. The tale of Bob and the
"lawnmower rodeo" became a beloved local legend, spreading joy
whenever retold.
