Narrative Report on Orientation and 1st Day of Catch Up Fridays

I. INTRODUCTION

Pursuant to DepEd Order No. 001 Series of 2024, Catch Up Fridays commenced on January 12, 2024,
with an orientation session followed by the inaugural day of activities. The program aims to provide additional
support and learning opportunities for students who may have encountered challenges during the previous
academic year, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills to succeed.

Similarly, to bolster the basic education priorities articulated in the MATATAG Agenda and
accelerate the achievement of education targets as stipulated in DepEd Order (DO) No. 013, s. 2023 titled
Adoption of the National Learning Recovery Program (NLRP), there is a need to intensify Values, Health, and
Peace Education. Values Education remains a priority in compliance with Republic Act (RA) No. 11476, Good
Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) and Values Education Act, which recognizes the vital role of the youth in
nation-building. The urgency for Peace Education is a prompt response to the 2022 Program for International
Student Assessment (PISA) results which reveal that bullying remains a pervasive problem in public schools
and the need for Filipino learners as global citizens to acquire and strengthen peace competencies allowing
them to become peace builders and advocates in their respective communities, while Health Education
demands stronger advocacy to ensure the overall health and well-being of learners.

II. ORIENTATION SESSION

The day began with a comprehensive orientation session, gathering students, parents, and educators in
the school. The school principal, Maam Marites F. Manigbas, welcomed everyone and emphasized the
significance of Catch Up Fridays in addressing academic gaps and fostering a positive learning environment.

During the orientation, the objectives, schedules, and activities planned for Catch Up Fridays were
elucidated. Parents were briefed on the curriculum, teaching methodologies, and the expected outcomes for
their children. Teachers discussed individualized learning plans tailored to each student's needs and provided
resources to support home-based learning.

III. FIRST DAY ACTIVITIES

Following the orientation, the students proceeded to their respective classrooms for the commencement
of the first Catch Up Fridays session beginning this 12th day of January 2024. The atmosphere was filled with
enthusiasm as educators implemented engaging activities designed to assess the students' current academic
standing and identify areas that require further attention.

Teachers utilized various instructional strategies, including interactive discussions, group activities, and
one-on-one consultations to cater to diverse learning styles. Diagnostic assessments were administered to gauge
the students' proficiency levels in key subjects.

In addition to academic focus, the day also included team-building exercises, fostering a sense of
camaraderie among students. These activities aimed to create a supportive community within the Catch Up
Fridays program, encouraging collaborative learning and peer assistance.

IV. FEEDBACK AND EVALUATION

At the end of the day, a brief feedback session was conducted to gather insights from the students
through the used of Reflection Journals. Initial observations and progress were discussed, and any concerns
raised were addressed promptly. This feedback mechanism is integral to the adaptive nature of Catch Up
Fridays, ensuring that the program remains responsive to the evolving needs of the students.

V. CONCLUSION

The orientation and first day of Catch Up Fridays on January 12, 2024, marked a successful start to
this initiative. With a strong foundation laid through comprehensive planning, dedicated educators, and active
participation from students and parents, the program is poised to make a positive impact on the academic
journey of the students throughout the academic year.
