Class Rules
A. ELICIT Activity 1: SPINNING WHEEL!
(Access prior knowledge) The teacher will use the Student Roulette in SilVerTek App or
the spinning wheel to choose learner who will answer the recall
questions. This will test the learners’ understanding of the previous
concepts.
Questions/Problems:
1. What is a linear function? [SOLO Level: Unistructural]
2. Describe the graph of a linear function? [SOLO Level:
Unistructural]
3. What can you say about the graph of a quadratic function?
[SOLO Level: Multistructural]
4. What is the degree of a quadratic function?
[SOLO Level: Unistructural]
Present the learning objectives of the lesson.
B. ENGAGE
Using the polynomial function
(Get the students’

minds focused on the P ( x )=6 x + 4 x +6.
topic)
Guide Questions: [SOLO Level: Unistructural]
How many terms are there?
What is the degree of the polynomial?
What is the leading coefficient?
How about the constant term?
EXPLORE Activity 2: Be a Polynomial Function Architect (GROUP
WORK)
(Provide students with a
common experience) The teacher will use again the SilVerTek App which is the
Random Team Generator in identifying the number and list of
members in each group.
Instructions: Do the activity with your groupmates.
Use all the numbers in the box once as coefficients or exponents to
form as many polynomial functions of x as you can. Write your
polynomial functions in standard form.
Guide Questions: [SOLO Level: Multistructural]
How many polynomial functions were you able to give?
Classify each according to its degree.
Also, identify the leading coefficient and the constant term.
EXPLAIN
Definition:
(Teach the concept. Should A polynomial function is a function of the form
include interaction between n n−1 n−2
teacher and students) P ( x )=a n x +an−1 x + an−2 x +…++ a1 x +a 0,
an≠ 0 ,
where n is a nonnegative integer , a 0 , a 1 , … , an are real numbers
n
called coefficients (numbers that appear in each term) , a n x is
the leading term, a n is the leading coefficient, and a 0 is the
constant term (number without a variable). The highest power of
the variable of P ( x ) is known as its degree.
There are various types of polynomial functions based
on the degree of the polynomial. The most common types
are:
● Zero Polynomial Function (degree 0):
0
P ( x )=a x =a
● Linear Polynomial Function (degree 1):
1
P ( x )=a x + b=ax+ b
● Quadratic Polynomial Function (degree 2):
2
P ( x )=a x + bx+ c
● Cubic Polynomial Function (degree 3):
3 2
P ( x )=a x +b x + cx+ d
● Quartic Polynomial Function (degree 4):
4 3 2
P ( x )=a x +b x +c x + dx+ e
where a , b , c , d∧e are constants.
Other than P ( x ), a polynomial function can be written
in different ways, like the following:
n n−1 n−2
f ( x )=an x + an−1 x +a n−2 x + …+a 1 x +a0 ,
n n−1 n−2
y=an x + an−1 x +a n−2 x + …+a 1 x+ a0 ,
