Literacy Training Service
Literacy Training Service
Literacy Training Service (LTS) - is designed to train the students to teach literacy and
numeracy skills to school children, out-of-school youth and other segments of society in need of
their services.
Define Literacy:
Literacy (noun) the ability to read and write. The word literate is from the Latin literatus, meaning
learned or lettered.
Alberta Education defines literacy as the ability, confidence and willingness to engage with
language to acquire, construct and communicate meaning in all aspects of daily living.
Language is explained as a socially and culturally constructed system of communication.
But why is literacy so important? Research shows that people with good literacy skills are more
likely to have greater self-esteem, improved health, better jobs and higher wages than those
with poor literacy skills. They are more able to take advantage of the opportunities that life may
offer them.
IMPACT:
1. Awareness into the surroundings.
2. Development of students in literacy.
3. Social bonds stronger.
4. Helps the educators towards their works.
5. Unleashes ignorance.
Beneficiaries:
1. Students
2. Out-of-school youth
—The term ''out-of- school youth'' means— (A) an eligible youth who is a school
dropout; or (B) an eligible youth who has received a secondary school diploma or its
equivalent but is basic skills deficient, unemployed, or underemployed.
3. Educators
4. Students under NSTP-LTS subject.
•There are three constants in life: change, choice, and principles. This couldn't be any
truer. The world is changing by the minute, and the only way to survive and succeed is
by adapting and making the right choices. Everything and anything around us is guided
by one principle or the other. What are principles? Principles are the basic guidelines or
foundations within which things must operate.
•Teaching is a complex profession, and it would be chaotic if it worked without taking into
account the major principles of teaching and learning. Having said that, more principles
are added every day because of the changes that happen around us. Holding on to a
particular set of principles of teaching might backfire. Hence, it is important to shake and
alter the list every now and then.
One of the most overlooked things when it comes to teaching and learning is the rapport
between the teacher and student. The students must feel at ease and they should feel
comfortable.
•INCLUSIVITY
Every kid is different. The type of learning, the pace at which they learn, their
understanding, everything varies from one person to the other. It was also found that the
previous learnings and understanding of the students affect their studies.
More often than not, students feel demotivated. They don't feel like studying or doing the
work. Teachers must reaffirm their faith and inspire them to do better. This is another
important principle of teaching. When it comes to principles of teaching, motivating and
inspiring students, makes it to the chart because one of the primary concerns of
teachers is to shape the future generation. Motivating the students even when they fail
and fall down must be the crux of the concern for teachers.
Learning theories are framework that explain how people acquire and retain knowledge
they provide a systematic way to understand how individuals process and respond to
new information different theories focus on different theories on different aspects of
learning process such as cognitive behavioral and constructivist approaches.
* Behaviorism
*Cognitive learning theory
*Constructivist learning theory
*Humains learning theory
*Connectivism learning theory
Cognitive learning theory -focus on the internal process surrounding information and
memory cognitive learning has application for teaching student as young as infants all
the way up to adult learning picking up new skills
Constructivist learning theory -learners construct knowledge rather than just passively
take information as people experience the word and reflect upon those experience
Connectivism learning theory -learning occurs when peers connected and share opinion
viewpoint and ideas through a collaboration process.
WHAT IS LESSON PLAN?
Lesson plan is essentially a road map for a particular lesson that includes what to
teach how to teach it and what learning outcomes you aim to achieve. A good plan will
help you stay organized and provide a structure for your instruction for a specific class or
topic.
