P2 September 2023

This document provides instructions for a Grade 12 mathematics exam consisting of 10 questions worth 150 marks over 3 hours. It details that students must show all working, use approved calculators unless otherwise stated, and round answers to 2 decimal places. The first question asks students to determine the regression line and correlation coefficient for marks data, predict a mark based on the line, and comment on the accuracy. The second question involves calculating mean, standard deviation and identifying scores above/below the mean for aptitude test data and using given standard deviation intervals. The third question involves calculating gradients, equations of lines and angles using coordinate geometry in a trapezium. The fourth question similarly uses coordinate geometry to find equations and lengths related to

obtained in the aptitude test.

Marks (as a %) 62 58 78 85 74 48 74 84 100 46 80 92 60 90 92

2.1.1 Calculate the mean mark obtained by these learners. (1)

2.1.2 Calculate the standard deviation of these learners' marks. (1)

2.1.3 Calculate the number of these learners whose marks lie more than one
standard deviation above the mean. (2)

2.1.4 The final Grade 11 marks (as a percentage) obtained by a group of

learners was analysed. The one standard deviation interval about the
mean was calculated as (82, 7 ; 94,1) .

Calculate the standard deviation for the final Grade 11 marks. (3)
