Chapter Iii

This chapter outlines the research methodology used in the study. It will use a descriptive survey method to assess the social media usage and social behaviors of 57 senior high school students from Palm Valley Multiple Intelligence School. Data will be collected through questionnaires using a 5-point Likert scale. Questions will address socializing, studying, entertainment, emotions, motives, and social norms. Statistical analysis will include percentages, mean, rank, and chi-square to analyze responses. The goal is to describe the effects of prolonged social media use on students' social behaviors.

CHAPTER III

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter includes the Research Design, Research Locale, Population and

Sampling, Data Gathering Procedure, Data Gathering Instruments, and Statistical of

Data.

RESEARCH DESIGN

This study used a descriptive survey method used to assess social media usage

towards socializing, studying, entertainment, and social behavior towards emotions,

motives, and social norms of Senior High School Students of Palm Valley Multiple

Intelligence School in the year 2021-2022. Descriptive research is a purposive process

of data gathering, analyzing, classifying, and tabulating data about prevailing

conditions, practices beliefs, processes, trends, and cause-effect relationships and

accurate interpretation about such data with or without the aid of statistical treatment.

RESEARCH LOCALE

This study was conducted in Palm Valley Multiple Intelligence School. Located at

483 Denmark St. Alaminos Heights Subdivision Poblacion III, Alaminos, Laguna. The

aforementioned school is a small one, and as such, it is only able to handle a modest

number of students.

POPULATION
This study will involve the participation of fifty-seven (57) students who will be

observed to determine the effect of prolonged social media usage on social Behavior

senior high school students, which is made up of twenty-five (25) students from grade

11 and thirty-two (32) students from grade 12 from Palm Valley Multiple Intelligence

School. Knowing that this particular school has a small student population may make

it easier for us to analyse the data. Even though we are amid a pandemic in 2021, we

believe that selecting students from PVMIS who are nearby will make it easier to

access information and communicate.

DATA GATHERING INSTRUMENT

The kind of research instrument used was the Likert Scale. A Likert Scale is a

survey rating scale that is used to measure attitudes or opinions in quantitative

research. Rating items on a five-point scale based on their level of agreement. It's a

question with a series of answers to choose from, indicating how strongly they agree

or disagree, generally ranging from 'strongly agree' to 'strongly disagree,' and usually

with a moderate or neutral option in between. The questionnaires consisted of ten

statements each on socializing, studying, and entertainment for the independent

variable ‘social media as well as emotions, motives, and social norms for the dependent

variable ‘social behavior’.

The researchers used this method of data gathering because it is known to be less

biased and supports open-minded options that were provided to accommodate related

to our study to avoid any kind of bias in the method of data gathering. It also

encourages respondents to be more cooperative because it is much more comfortable

to respond and much more open to options while remaining relevant and specific to

the type of research that the researchers are conducting.

STATISTICAL TREATMENT
Senior high school students' questionnaire responses were statistically examined

following the study's data criteria. Statistically analysed with the data count, man,

percentage, and rank are taken into account.
