The engine will be driven by the starter for 20
CHECK seconds, without being started.

a Measure the compression of cylinder no.1.


I - PREPARATION OPERATION FOR CHECK
a Fully depress the accelerator pedal in order to open

a Moderately tighten the unions of the diesel com-
pression gauge using an open-jawed spanner.
a Connect the self-contained starter.
a Force the vehicle's + after ignition feed.
a Connect the Diagnostic tool.
a Run commands:
- RZ009 "Apprentissage fonctions véhicule",
- VP036 "Inhibition alimentation carburant.
a Operate the starter for 15 seconds until the needle
of the diesel compression gauge stabilises to ob-
tain the maximum value.
a Make progress with the diagram sheet.
a Carry out the same procedure for the other cylin-
ders.
a Check that the cylinder compression values are all
approximately equal.

Note:
The pressure value after compression must be at
least 18 bar.

a Run the command VP037 "Arrêt inhibition alimen-


tation carburant.
a Disconnect:
- the Diagnostic tool,
- the self-contained starter.

a Tighten to torque the tensioning roller bolt (40
N.m).
a Turn the accessories belt tensioning roller clockwise
using a 16 mm spanner.
a Refit a new accessories belt.
a Rotate the crankshaft clockwise twice to balance the
accessories belt tension on every pulley.
a Refit the fairing support under the engine.
a Torque tighten the bolts of the fairing support un-
der the engine (21 N.m).

III - FINAL OPERATION


a Refit:
- the front section of the front right-hand wheel arch
liner (see Front wheel arch liner: Removal - Re-

- the front right-hand wheel (see Wheel: Removal -

Note:
For camshaft seals delivered fitted to a protective
sleeve:

-do not remove the camshaft seal from its protec-
tive sleeve,
-fit the sleeve fitted with the camshaft seal on the
camshaft,
-push the protective sleeve towards the cylinder
head until the camshaft seal is in full contact with
the cylinder head,
-fit the seal on the camshaft by following the rec-
ommendations below.
