Research Proposal
Research Proposal
Abstract:
The purpose of this research proposal is to investigate strategies and interventions aimed at
enhancing reading fluency in Grade 2 pupils. The study will explore the impact of variuos instructional
methods on improving reading fluency and comprehension skills. Through comprehensive examination of
existing literature, this research aims to provide educators and policy-makers with evidenced-based
strategies for promoting reading fluency in early elementary school settings.
Introduction:
Reading fluency is a crucial skill that serves as a foundation for academic success and lifelong
learning. Grade 2 is a critical stage in child’s reading development, as students transition from learning to
read to reading to learn. However, many Grade 2 pupils struggle with reading fluency, which impede their
overall academic progress. This research proposal aims to address this issue by investigating effective
strategies and interventions that can enhance reading fluency in Grade 2 pupils.
Goals:
The methodology that I will be going to use is a mixed‐method approach, combining both quantitative and
qualitative methods. This method will allow to gather both numerical data and rich qualitative information
to gain a comprehensive understanding of the effectiveness and impact of different strategies and
interventiions.
In doing the quantitative method the aid of survey questionaires will be use to get a numerical
data that will my invetigation reliable.
1. To identify the factors that contribute to reading fluency difficulties in Grade 2 pupils.
2. To explore various instructional strategies and interventions that have been proven to enhance reading
fluency.
3. To evaluate the effectiveness of identified strategies and interventions in improving reading fluency and
comprehension in Grade 2 pupils.
This research proposal will be guided by Simple View of of Reading model, which posits that
reading comprehension is determined by 2 components: ( word recognition) and linguistic comprehension
(understanding the meaning of words and simple sentences). By focusing on intervention that target both
decoding and linguistic comprehension skills, this study aims to enhance reading fluency in Grade 2
students.
