Some most useful OS utilities:

• Back up hard disk * Change the desktop background
• Adjust screen resolution * Adjust mouse and Trackpad sensitivity
• Change keyboard and language * Troubleshoot problems
• Manage user accounts and passwords * Monitor network connectivity
• Uninstall software * Monitor the device’s power setting
• Adjust speaker volume * Check print status
* A PDF reader, such as Adobe Reader, is an essential utility that displays
documents stored in standard PDF files. PDF (Portable Document Format) is a
standard format for exchanging files, so most people will assume that your computer
has PDF capability.

Figure 3-6: The Windows Device Manager offers access to device drivers. You can
check if they are working and change settings. You can also check the device
driver’s version number and compare it with the most recent version posted online.

Device driver is used by printers, monitors, graphics cards, sound cards, network
cards, modems, storage devices, mice, and scanners.

A formula, such as =D4-D4+((D8/B2)*110) can contain cell references (like D4 and

D5), numbers (like 110) and mathematical operators (such as multiplication (*)
and division (/)).

*A database can contain any sort od data, such as a university’s student records, a
library’s card catalog, a store’s inventory, an individual’s address book, or a utility
company’s customers. Databases can be stored on personal computers, network
servers, Web servers, mainframes, and even handheld computers.
