2. The average of four number is 40. The third is 13 more than the second. The second
is eight. The fourth is 7 less than the first. Find the first number.

Show your Solution:

Let's assign variables to each of the four numbers. We'll call them a, b, c, and d.
We know that the average of the four numbers is 40, so we can write:
(a + b + c + d)/4 = 40

Multiplying both sides by 4 gives us:

a + b + c + d = 160

We also know that the second number (b) is 8, so we can substitute that in:
a + 8 + c + d = 160
We know that the third number (c) is 13 more than the second number (b), so we can
write:

c = b + 13

Substituting b = 8 gives us:

c = 21

We also know that the fourth number (d) is 7 less than the first number (a), so we can
write:
d=a-7

Substituting that into our earlier equation, we get:

a + 8 + 21 + (a - 7) = 160

Simplifying, we get:
2a + 22 = 160

Subtracting 22 from both sides gives us:

2a = 138

Dividing both sides by 2 gives us:

a = 69

Therefore, the first number is 69.

3. The mean height of Ian, Charles, Mark, and Christian is 66 inches. What is the height
of Alex if the mean height of the five boys is 70 inches?

Show your Solution:

The mean height of Ian, Charles, Mark, and Christian is 66 inches, so their total height is:
4 * 66 = 264 inches

The mean height of the five boys is 70 inches, so their total height is:
5 * 70 = 350 inches

We know that Alex's height (x) is missing from the first sum of heights (264 inches) and
included in the second sum of heights (350 inches). So we can set up the following
equation:
264 + x = 350

Solving for x, we get:

x = 350 - 264
x = 86
Therefore, the height of Alex is 86 inches.
4. The six institutes of Bulacan Agricultural State College, consisting of 22, 32, 18, 16,
10, and 12 employees have an equal monthly salary of ₱7,100, ₱7,500, ₱6,800,
₱8,100, ₱7,700 and ₱7,100, respective. What is the mean monthly salary of all the
employees of BASC?

Show your Solution:

First, we need to find the total number of employees:

Total number of employees = 22 + 32 + 18 + 16 + 10 + 12 = 110

Next, we need to find the total salary of all employees:

Total salary = (22 x 7100) + (32 x 7500) + (18 x 6800) + (16 x 8100) + (10 x 7700) + (12 x 7100)

Total salary = 156,200 + 240,000 + 122,400 + 129,600 + 77,000 + 85,200

Total salary = 810,400

Finally, we can find the mean monthly salary by dividing the total salary by the total number of
employees:

Mean monthly salary = Total salary / Total number of employees

Mean monthly salary = 810,400 / 110

Mean monthly salary = 7,367.27 (rounded to the nearest cent)

Therefore, the mean monthly salary of all the employees of BASC is ₱7,367.27.

6. A sample of weights and heights of five men member of a teacher officer showed
their weights and heights in years:
Age 22 18 26 20 24

Weight 115 159 141 137 130

A. Find the mean of Age: ____22_______; Weight: _____136.4____

B. Find standard deviation Age: _____2.83______; Weight: ___20.59____

D. Which set of data is relatively more variable?

Answer: To compare the relative variability of the two data sets, we can use the

coefficient of variation (CV), which is the ratio of the standard deviation to the mean.
CV of Age = (2.83/22) x 100% = 12.86%

CV of Weight = (20.59/136.4) x 100% = 15.1%

Therefore, the set of weight data is relatively more variable.

E. Why?
Answer: The set of weight data is relatively more variable because its coefficient of
variation is higher than that of the age data. This means that the weight data has a
greater dispersion around the mean compared to the age data, in proportion to the
mean itself. This could be due to individual differences in body type, lifestyle, or dietary
habits, among other factors.

7. Consider the following measurements in liters for two sample of milk tea juice bottled
by two competing brands A and B.
Brand A 0.92 1.00 0.94 1.03 1.11

Brand B 1.06 1.01 0.88 0.91 1.14

A. Find the mean content of the samples (two-decimal places).

Brand A: ____0.98_____;
Brand B: ____1.00_______

B. Find the standard deviation of the sample (two-decimal places).

Brand A: ___0.26___;
Brand B: ___0.34________

C. Which company shows better bottling average?

Answer: The company with the better bottling average is the one with the higher mean
content, which in this case is Brand B with a mean of 1.00 liters.

D. Which company is more consistent in bottling?

Answer: The company that is more consistent in bottling is the one with the smaller
standard deviation, which in this case is Brand A with a standard deviation of 0.26
liters.

E. If you are to buy bottled orange juice, which product will you prefer?

Based on the mean content and standard deviation, both brands are relatively close in
terms of consistency and mean content. Therefore, the decision may depend on other
factors such as taste, price, or brand loyalty.

F. Why?

Answer: The answer to this question depends on personal preference, as different

people may value different factors when making purchasing decisions. Some possible
reasons to prefer one brand over the other could include taste preference, brand loyalty,
price, or perceived quality.

9. Supposed that the mean age of the employees of Bulacan Agricultural State College
is 45.5 years old and the standard deviation is 7.25 and it is normally distributed. a.
What is the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose age is
younger than or equal to 47 years old?
b. What is the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose
age is older than or equal to 55 years old?
c. What is the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose
age falls between 45.5 and 50.25 years old?
d. What is the probability that the ages of the group of randomly selected
employees will fall between 25 and 37.5 years old?

Show your Solution (Draw and shade the intended Area for Normal Distribution):

a. To solve for the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose age is
younger than or equal to 47 years old, we need to find the z-score first:

z = (x - μ) / σ
z = (47 - 45.5) / 7.25
z = 0.21

Using a standard normal distribution table or a calculator, we can find that the probability of a z-
score of 0.21 or less is approximately 0.5832. Therefore, the probability that a group of randomly
selected employees whose age is younger than or equal to 47 years old is 0.5832.

b. To solve for the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose age is older
than or equal to 55 years old, we need to find the z-score first:

z = (x - μ) / σ
z = (55 - 45.5) / 7.25
z = 1.31

Using a standard normal distribution table or a calculator, we can find that the probability of a z-
score of 1.31 or more is approximately 0.0951. Therefore, the probability that a group of
randomly selected employees whose age is older than or equal to 55 years old is 0.0951.

c. To solve for the probability that a group of randomly selected employees whose age falls
between 45.5 and 50.25 years old, we need to find the z-scores for both values:

z1 = (x1 - μ) / σ
z1 = (45.5 - 45.5) / 7.25
z1 = 0

z2 = (x2 - μ) / σ
z2 = (50.25 - 45.5) / 7.25
z2 = 0.65

Using a standard normal distribution table or a calculator, we can find the area between z1 and
z2, which is approximately 0.2546. Therefore, the probability that a group of randomly selected
employees whose age falls between 45.5 and 50.25 years old is 0.2546.

d. To solve for the probability that the ages of the group of randomly selected employees will fall
between 25 and 37.5 years old, we need to find the z-scores for both values:

z1 = (x1 - μ) / σ
z1 = (25 - 45.5) / 7.25
z1 = -2.83

z2 = (x2 - μ) / σ
z2 = (37.5 - 45.5) / 7.25
z2 = -1.10

Using a standard normal distribution table or a calculator, we can find the area between z1 and
z2, which is approximately 0.1357. Therefore, the probability that the ages of the group of
randomly selected employees will fall between 25 and 37.5 years old is 0.1357.
