R&S Protocol Conformance TTCN-3 Scope

1 Scope
This release note contains important information about the Rohde & Schwarz 3GPP NR
TTCN-3 software products and complements the installation notes and software
manuals. It also describes the features, known bugs and limitations of this release.

1.1 News
Release 22.12.1 is the first release for NR test cases based on 22wk12 TTCN ATS.

1.2 Settings required for PCT / TTCN test cases

The NR test cases are running on FLEXX-CMX setups with following SW components
installed:
- CMX500 CSW 6.90.1060
- Contest Base 18.5.2
- RS-Contest-PCT-NG >= 3.8.1 < 3.9.0

- RF Cabling
- The cabling connection depends on the number of CMWs being connected to
the system and how the RF configurations are set in contest. See Section 3.4

- External Attenuation
Depending on the RF cable connection from CMX System to the DUT antenna
input it might be required to compensate signal pathloss via Contest DUT
Configuration.

- System Configuration in Contest

o Following system configurations can be used for PCT test cases:
- TS-FLEXX-CMX-Z24-BETA
- TS-FLEXX-CMX-2xZ24-BETA
- TS-FLEXX-CMX-RF88
For the initial setup click ‘System Controller’ in Test System Selection even
when installation is on a CMWC without System Controller PC.
o Without System Controller PC the IP-Address of the CMWC needs to be
configured to localhost (127.0.0.1) to enable Path and Device Search and
NR Attenuation settings in Contest.
o DUT Antenna Configuration
o LTE must be configured as Antenna 1 and NR as Antenna 2 under
DUT -> RAT & Antenna Configuration

2 Prerequisites

2.1 Hardware
Hardware required:
o R&S ® CMX Signalling Tester
o R&S ® CMW Signalling Tester
o R&S ® SMBV100B (for LBS5-KC131)

2.2 Software
The R&S ® Protocol Conformance TTCN-3 software products are released as
executable installation files, which should be installed using the R&S ® Installation
Manager.
Please refer to the SW Manual RS_InstallationManager_GettingStarted.pdf
for further details on R&S ® Installation Manager.

2.2.1 General SW requirements

For the Software included in this Release, the following prerequisites have to be
satisfied. Please ensure that the listed software components are installed:

Note: CSW Signaling Sub 6.90.1060 must be provided by R&S application engineers.

3.3 Pics settings

General Note
Default settings for delivered pics files are set based on TTCN Default values and have
to be set to what is supported by the DUT. Using the default value might cause some
TCs not to start.

Example:
Default pc_nrTDD value = "FALSE"
Default pc_nrFDD value = "FALSE"

If the DUT supports NR TDD or NR FDD these have to be set to “TRUE” accordingly
before starting NR TCs or they will be stopped during the pics check.

Configuring PDU session

In 21wk12, pc_noOf_PDUs is no longer used and the TTCN implementation supports
multi PDU/PDN sessions. New Pics have been introduced to handle the PDU/PDN
session establishment
• pc_noOf_PDUsNewConnection
• pc_noOf_PDUsSameConnection
• pc_noOf_PDNsNewConnection
• pc_noOf_PDNsSameConnection

If you have a device that automatically triggers a PDU session after registration on
same rrc connection, you shall set pc_noOf_PDUsSameConnection to 1

If the device establishes PDU session in a new connection then

pc_noOf_PDUsNewConnection shall be set to 1

The pics needs to be updated based on additional PDU (multi PDU) session triggered
by the UE

UE is configured for MultiPDU/MultiPDN

While running testcases with UE configured as MultiPDU/MultiPDN, there are
additional PICS that need to be set carefully.
If the UE is configured to trigger the PDU Session for IMS DNN first, followed by PDU
Session for Internet DNN then following should be set :
pc_noOf_PDUsSameConnection = 1
pc_noOf_PDUsNewConnection =1
pc_APN_Default_Configuration = ims
pc_Provide_IMS_as_second_APN = false
pc_Provide_Internet_as_second_APN = true

If the UE is configured to trigger the PDU Session for Internet DNN first, followed by
PDU Session for IMS DNN then following should be set :
pc_noOf_PDUsSameConnection = 1
pc_noOf_PDUsNewConnection =1

pc_APN_Default_Configuration = internet
pc_Provide_Internet_as_second_APN = FALSE
pc_Provide_IMS_as_second_APN = TRUE

Needless to say, the PICS pc_APN_ID_IMS and pc_APN_ID_Internet should be set

according to what is configured in the UE.

On LTE side, there is a Default EPS Bearer Context established after a successful
attach. Now if the testcase needs another PDN (a Dedicated bearer), and the UE
triggers it automatically, then set pc_noOf_PDNsSameConnection >0.
If the UE needs another PDN, but the UE will do that on a new connection then set
pc_noOf_PDNsSameConnection =0 and pc_noOf_PDNsNewConnection >0.

New Attenuation PIXIT Parameters

With versions >= 21.37, the following PIXIT parameters have been introduced -
px_RS_NR_DLAttenuation_FR1
px_RS_NR_ULAttenuation_FR1
px_RS_NR_DLAttenuation_FR2
px_RS_NR_ULAttenuation_FR2

These PIXITs allow attenuation to be applied separately for FR1 and FR2 (will have an
impact on EN-DC)
Previous PIXIT parameters px_RS_NR_DLAttenuation and px_RS_NR_ULAttenuation
will be deprecated in the next release.

New PIXIT - px_RS_Campaign_TCInfo_TCSECheck

px_RS_Campaign_TCInfo_TCSECheck has 5 possible values:

1. not_checked (default)
2. not_available (TCSE not found in RSTCA-file or RSTCA-file not found)
3. not_fulfilled (TCSE not fulfilled)
4. fulfilled (TCSE fulfilled)
5. invalid (syntactically incorrect TCSE -> invalid)

When a TC is started, PCT-NG evaluates the TCSE and includes “fulfilled” or “not
fulfilled” based on the result.

3.4 CONTEST-PCT-NG 3.8.1

New Features 3.5:
• Test plan editor improvements:

Fixes 3.5.1:
• CA band type restriction to applicable CA mode
Fixes 3.5.2:
• Enhanced test case guard timer
NOTE: With previous PCT-NG versions the TC has been terminated shortly before
TTCN guard time exceeded. (“Verdict: Inconclusive”, “Observation: PT
GuardTimeExceeded”)
With Enhanced test case guard timer the TC runs into TTCN guard time in
case there is no reaction from DUT and the final TTCN verdict applies. (In
most cases “Verdict: Fail” no Observation.)
“Observation: PT GuardTimeExceeded” does only apply when TTCN test
case hangs and does not stop itself after TTCN guard timer.
Fixes 3.6.0:
• Improved TCSE handling (logged in px_RS_Campaign_TCInfo_TCSECheck)
• Changed FR2 PDS (Path and Device) settings
Fixes 3.8.1:
• FR2 band filter
• Enhanced Cell configuration handling (enhanced PDS)

• TomHeader – Specification version and Band information for FR1 & FR2

4 Known Problems

4.1 CONTEST / PCT-NG

• On TS-FLEXX-CMX-RF88 with 3 or 4 CMW system measurement and
calibration functionality is currently not supported.
• After update to Contest-Base 18.2 the grouping settings in Applications
Browser are getting lost.
• With PCT-NG < 3.5.2 Contest could terminate the test case before TTCN
guard timer applies.

4.2 MAC / RLC test case execution

• some RLC test cases may fail the test case during test execution due to
logging issues, therefore it is recommeded to run the RLC test cases with tlilog
being disabled.

With test cast version 6.17.0.18 we need to have <no_tci_copy /> in .tcproj and
<sync-log /> removed from .tcproj.

• ENDC / SA versions of 7.1.1.4.1.1, 7.1.1.4.2.1, 7.1.1.4.2.3, 7.1.1.4.2.5 :

Please run with nr_feat :: "LeastLogging" and tli.xml filled with
<tliSEnter /> <tliSLeave /> <tliEncode /> <tliDecode />
to avoid the performance related issues.

4.3 NAS test case execution

• Several NAS test cases require the IMEI pixits to be correctly set in order to
pass the test cases. It is recommended to run TC 9.1.3.1 to set the IMEI pixits
(px_IMEISV_Def and px_IMEI_Def)

4.4 SA Testing
• CMX-Z01 UICC is commercially available and should be used for SA testing.

4.5 License Problem

In case you are facing a license problem please check if the R&S Smart Card service
is running correctly. If “R&S Smart Card” Service is set to Disabled please change it to
“Automatic”.

4.6 Problems to identify KB036 options

CMWC sometimes fails to identify the KB036 options after installation. If this happens
please check that
• Smart Card Service is running
• Smart Card Drivers are all enabled

6.1 NR5GC Test UICC Profiles

The mapping of those 3GPP 38.523 test cases with test specific UICC Profile requirements onto
the corresponding profiles (named e.g. “TS-38508-1_USIM-configuration-1_CMX.ups”) is given
in the “pre-test conditions” section of the test case specification (TS 38.523-1) with reference to
TS 38.508-1 cl. 6.4.1.
