Procedure Text

procedure text is one type of text that works to inform the reader about steps of doing
something. (Procedure text is a text which aims to inform the readers about the steps
to do something). Usually, this text starts with “How to……” For example, “How to
operate……” or “How to make……”

Then, what is the purpose of procedure text? This text is used to explain how something
is made, done, or used with clear and sequential steps. (The purpose of procedure text
is to show how something is made, used, or done through a sequence of steps).

Aim/Goal
Well, the first part of writing text procedure is aim/goal which means goal. Usually, this
purpose is located in the title which shows the purpose of the text.

Contoh: How to Make Dalgona Coffee

Ingredients/Materials
In the second part, Smart Friends are required to write ingredients/material.
Writing ingredients/material is useful for explaining what materials or tools are used to
make something in procedure text .

Contoh: The ingredients to make Dalgona coffee are coffee and sugar. We also need a
spoon and warm water.

Steps/Methods
Ayaaay!! We're also at the end, namely writing steps/methods (steps/methods). This
section contains the steps taken to achieve the objectives of procedure text.

Contoh: First, wash the tomatoes.

Language Feature of Procedure Text:

– Use adverbial of sequence / Using temporal conjunction (e.g: first, second, third, the
last)
– Use command / imperative sentence (e.g : put the noodles on the . . ., cut the
onion. . ., wash the tomatoes. . . )
– Using adverbials (Adverbs) to express detail the time, place, manner accurate, for
example, for five minutes, 2 hours, etc.
– Using action verbs, e.g : make, take, boil, cook
– Using Simple Present Tense
Connective verbs : after that, next, before, then,after
