Technology refers to the application of scientific knowledge for practical purposes to enhance the human environment. Major technological advancements have occurred since the invention of the wheel, allowing humanity to explore space, increase agricultural efficiency, and modernize society. Technology has benefits like simplifying lives, facilitating communication globally, and saving time through conveniences. However, overreliance on technology can be problematic as it can distract from education and morality, create addiction issues particularly in children, and threaten online privacy and security through hacking. While technology is a powerful tool, its negative impacts need to be mitigated through responsible use and focus on eco-friendliness to ensure sustainable progress.

TECHNOLOGY

Good evening to toastmaster of the day, fellow gaveliers and my beloved


teacher. Today I would like to deliver my speech which is ‘Technology’.
Technology is all around us. But what is the meaning of technology?
Technology can be defined as the application of scientific knowledge to
change and manipulate the human environment.

Since the invention of the wheel to the use of microchips in computers


and mobiles, technology has come a long way. The man has reached
the moon and explored the outer space just because of the
advancement in the aeronautics field. Even in primitive occupations such
as agriculture, there have been so many technological advancements
with modern tools such as traction engine and steam tractor technology
which has helped us make progress.

Technology has its own importance in our lives. Without technological


advancements, our lives would not have been simpler and faster. The
modernisation that the world is witnessing today has all been possible
because of the technological developments in different fields. Moreover,
it has helped in reducing the risks people had to undertake in many
sectors such as mining. With new tools available, the tasks are less risky
and are more efficient as well.

Technology has given us a big impact to communicate with anyone in


the world and form relationships with people who are some distance
away, rather than being limited to people within our physical vicinity.
Moreover, this has some great positives for both home-life and work-life.
In regards to work-life, employees are able to communicate with co-
workers from anywhere, which allows more employees to work from
home.
Secondly, the entertainment industry has experienced a revolution from
this technology. Consumers now have an incredible choice of movies,
shows, games, music, and other entertainment available 24/7. The
music and film industries have been democratized as artists are no
longer reliant on companies to fund and promote them, as they can do it
all themselves. It is easier to bring entertainment to all thanks to
subscription costs and plans that are far more reasonable than buying
tickets for a live show.

Lastly, technology is a time saver. Modern technology saves us lots of


time, whether it’s our computer regulated cars driving us to work,
washing machines to do our laundry, or automated banking to allow us
to pay by credit card, use internet banking, or get cash out from the
ATM. This extra time allows our society's biggest brains to continue
developing more advanced technology.

Now let’s look at the downside of technology. Technology can be a


blessing or a curse depending upon its usage. Studies have shown that
gadgets like smartphones and computers distract children and teens
from moral and educational values. In educational organizations, there
are a lot of electronic educational resources available, and educators
must make students correctly understand and use, instead of copying
and duplicating the whole thing without proper info.

Secondly, technology has brought children addiction. It has made


humans dependent on digital computers and gadgets such as
smartphones, laptops, video games, and computers. They stopped
roaming and playing outside. At a very young age, they develop various
diseases such as depression, sleep disturbances and lack of physical
activity. Also, fewer communication skills between people.

Lastly, advancement in technology has contributed to strong security, as


well as connection to Internet privacy. But our financial accounts, our
personal photos, and our details on the mobile phone will affect the
Internet someday. Due to the worldwide interconnections of a network of
devices and systems, many have fallen victim to identity thieves who
have hacked their accounts. The way to recovery from these types of
cyber attacks can be extremely long and time-consuming. Mobile device
manufacturers, software, and web developers collect a lot of information
about you to show you suitable ads later. Some software limiting them to
a warning in the license agreement, which no one generally reads.

Technology is one of the greatest tools for mankind however, it has the
potential to be misused. Technology can also cause some jobs to
become obsolete, causing unemployment. Moreover, current technology
needs to focus on being more eco-friendly and minimize their carbon
footprints. This is the only way to ensure that technology does not result
in the destruction of our natural resources and eventually, our planet.
