BIM Execution Plan RP101 rev. 1

1 BIM Execution Plan Overview:

The intent of this BIM Execution Plan is to provide a framework that will let the Client;
Contractors, engineers, and construction manager deploy building information modelling
(BIM) technology and best practices on this project faster and more cost-effectively.and the
detail scope of information to be shared, relevant business processes and supporting
software.
The BIM model will allow performing coordination, visualization and engineering analysis of
all Roads and structures (i.e under pass over pass, minor and major bridges, viaducts etc).
Also this BIM model is being used throughout the Design, material construction, sequencing,
clash coordination and other Construction stage. This BIM model is used for decision
support, project review, and design analysis and quality assurance during all phases of
projects.

2 Purpose
The purpose of this report is to describe the system to be followed for deploying a state of
the art Digital Project Management System in the Nagpur-Mumbai Super Communication
Express Way project.

3 Scope
The scope of this work is to implement 5D-BIM in the NMSCEW project, through which data
modelling capabilities open up new avenues for predictability, resulting in a more efficient
project perview.

4 Building Information Modelling Execution Plan (BEP)

The BEP is prepared to demonstrate the proposed approach for the implementation of the
5D-BIM and the capability, capacity of the firm and the supply chain to meet the Employers
Information Requirements. This report has been outlined with all the agreed elements as per
Article 29.
The BEP is structured in accordance with PAS 1192 and the CPIx Protocol.
This project has been agreed by the representatives of the project team as listed in Table 1.

5.1.1 Approach to Model File

i. The drawing and CAD data structure will follow British Standards for Collaborative
production of architectural, engineering and construction information – Code of
practice.
ii. All the models shall be designed and the construction information shall be prepared
as an individual discipline standard and then collaborate it in single master 3D
composite model.
iii. Creation of 3D engineered intelligent models and sharing details of individual
components for each discipline involved will follow as per Table 2 and Table 3.
iv. All model files shall be created with a scale of 1:1.
v. Templates shall be created to generate model files which will help to standardize
information exchange during the course of the project and minimize rework (See
Annexure A for standards).

5.2 Coordination
At the start of a project it is important to identify the roles and responsibilities of the design
teams, in view of creating coordination between the different disciplines. Table 5 fulfils the
necessary requirements by recording the names and contact details of the individuals.

5.2.1 Goals for collaboration and Information modelling

i. For coordination purposes each of the disciplines need to reference other models in a
timely manner as specified in Article 29 clause 29.7.
ii. Table 5 gives the information about a Project coordinator who would be a single point
of contact for authority for monitoring and resolving concerns of authority for day-to-
day progress of the project.
Note: Head of each discipline group has the authority to decide the extent and nature
of supporting discipline data that shall be displayed in each of their own discipline
drawing submissions.

5.3 BOQ
The Materials Quantity Take-off is extracted from the 3D visualization aids of BIM. The BIM
model utilizes family of properties in elements which were classified based on type and
instance of occurrence of the element for Quantity estimation.

6 4D BIM
3D models along with 4th dimension of time will allow the stakeholders to visualize
construction, manage the project schedule and identify potential spatial and resource
conflicts and study potential solutions

6.1 4D Schedule Preparation

i. Getting Work Breakdown Structure with events and activities and assigning resources
from client.
ii. Identifying Critical path by assigning relationships between various activities.
iii. Create a primary baseline for the schedule and get it approved
iv. Check for any delays in the start of the Project.
v. If any delays found adjust the schedule and update the baseline. This step is followed
throughout the construction phase.
vi. The project plan will be detailed to reflect the planned construction progress as per
the BIM model.

6.2 4D in Construction Phase

i. The activities will be linked with the model
ii. 4D Simulations are created for documentation and are checked for accuracy
iii. Any error will be rectified, updated and again linked to the activities.
iv. Steps ii and iii will be continued till no errors have been found in the model.
v. The percentage of work or measurements, work milestone status, any deviation in
quality or engineering BOQ shall be periodically updated as per Article 29 clause 29.5
(iv).
vi. The 4D model shall be reviewed regularly and the schedule will be optimized
accordingly.

7 5D BIM
The approach to 5D BIM is still in discussion with the Contractor, once it is finalized the same
will be updated in this section.

8 Quality Control

8.1 Overall Strategy for Quality Control:

Quality of BIM model ensures information consistency from design to construction. BIM is
considered helpful in improving design Quality by eliminating conflicts and reducing rework.
For standard practice QA/QC checklist template to ensure quality of the designs/drawings.

8.2 Quality Control Checks:

The following checks should be performed to assure quality.

intent has been followed

Ensure that the BIM Standard

Standards BIM Coordinator have been followed (fonts, L&T
Check dimensions, line styles, Infrastructure
levels/layers,etc.)

In addition to the above quality checks the BIM Coordinator named in Section E (5.1) will be
responsible for the following Model Integrity QA checks prior to the issuing of BIM models:
1. The coordinate system is in line with this BEP document and contract document
Schedule-Q.
2. Naming convention and revisions are in line with this BEP document and contract
document Schedule-Q.
3. Graphical and non-graphical information is included for elements to the correct LOD in
line with contract document Schedule-Q.
4. Data sets / schedules in the models are populated with the correct data.
The BIM Manager / BIM Coordinator and the Design Manager are responsible for QA checks
on the coordination between the interfaces with other work packages.
