Tutorial Chapter 7

This document summarizes key information about animal and plant tissues. For animal tissue, it identifies three main types of epithelial tissues and their functions, three types of muscle tissue, and compares the main types of connective tissue and their roles. For plant tissue, it names three ground tissues, describes the roles of xylem and phloem vascular tissues, compares apical and lateral meristems and their roles in primary and secondary growth.

ANSWER
ANIMAL TISSUE
1. Simple squamous epithelium, simple cuboidal epithelium and simple columnar
epithelium.
2. Skeletal muscle tissue, is to moves the skeleton ( voluntary). This tissue was long, striated
cells with many nuclei. Next, cardiac muscle tissue, the heart muscle (involuntary). This
tissue was striated cells with single nuclei. Lastly, smooth muscle tissue. It is in the walls of
hallow organs (involuntary). This tissue has no striations and single nuclei.
3. Simple squamous epithelium, allow passage of materials by diffusion and filtration in
sites where protection is not important. Next, simple cuboidal epithelium, for secretion and
absorption. Lastly, simple columnar epithelium, for absorption and secretion of mucus.
4. Soft connective tissue consist of two connective tissues, which are loose connective
tissue and dense connective tissue ( dense, collagen fibers) while the specialized connective
tissues consists of cartilage , adipose tissue and bone. The loose connective tissue function
in fibroblast a , matrix of complex carbohydrates with fibers dispersed widely through the
matrix while the dense irregular functions is to support skin and internal organs while dense
regular functions is for ligament and tendons . In specialized connective tissues, the cartilage
is a rubbery extracellular matrix that supports cushions bones while the adipose tissue is a
fat-filled cells which stores energy, cushions and protect organs. The bone is for rigid
support muscle attachment, protection, mineral storage and blood productions.

PLANT TISSUE
1. Parenchyma, Collenchyma and Sclerenchyma
2. There are two types of vascular tissue in plants, which are xylem and phloem. The
function of xylem is to transport water and minerals to the leaves. Then, function of phloem
is to transport foods to the growing parts and storage organs.
3. Apical meristem located at tip of shoots and root to enable primary growth. Plant tissue
that result from primary growth are called primary tissue and make up primary plant tissue.
Root apical meristem protected by root cap. While lateral meristem increases girth in
nonwoody plants. There’s two type of lateral meristem, vascular cambium and cork
cambium. In woody stem, cork cambium produces cork cells and replace the epidermis with
thicker, tougher periderm. Vascular cambium produces secondary vascular tissues it is
secondary xylem and secondary phloem.
4. Primary growth is from cell division at the apical meristem at plant tip form the growth
of plants’ length. While, secondary growth from cell division at lateral meristem increasing
the shoot’s girth and thickens plants’ body.
