1. Introduction
This procedure describes the manner by which line pipe will be loaded at GUPCO warehouse ,
transported to a stockpile at site, unloaded and reloaded onto trucks and transported along the

ROW for unloading where required in the string. Also to outline the resources to be used. Each
phase of this operation is described below :
There will be responsible crew from Contractor at GUPCO warehouse for checking and
measuring the pipes, which will be inspected for coating and bevel damage. A pipe
sheet will be prepared noting any damage found.
2.2.1. A certified crane shall be used for loading the pipes on the trucks at GUPCO
warehouse.
2.2.2. Certified hooks and slings shall be used for handling the pipes.
2.2.3. Handling procedure: Two riggers are going to be located at ground to fix the
coated hooks to the pipes and guide the pipes through their way from ground
to the bottom deck of the truck, where two other riggers are going to be
located to settle the pipes in the required orientation over the truck, one
forman is going to be responsible for giving guiding orders for the crane
operator.
2.3.1. All trucks to be used for transporting pipes from warehouse to site shall be in a
safe and proper condition and capable of performing the intended work.
2.3.2. Wooden saddles covered with soft material shall be fixed to the bottom deck
of trucks.
2.3.3. Nylon slings (or equivalent) shall be used to tie pipes on trucks (three for each
truck).
2.3.4. A metal head boards shall be fixed between the truck cabin and pipes.

4.3. The bottom row of pipe shall be lowered onto soft sand or sand bag supports.
4.4. Pipe clamps to be used to prevent pipes from moving.
4.5. Max. stacking height shall be according to pipe supplier recommendations and GUPCO
approval.
5. Reloading
5.1. The same crane that has been used for unloading the pipes from trucks to ground is
going to be used for reloading the pipes to ROW trucks.
5.2. The same above procedure for loading pipes shall be applied.
7.1. Side boom or hydraulic crane shall be used for unloading pipes along ROW.
7.2. Two riggers shall be located at truck deck to guide the pipes through their way down,
7.3. Two more riggers shall be located at ground to receive and rest the pipes over sand
bags.
7.4. Pipes shall be orientated on sand bags with about 10 cm overlap between each pipe.
7.5. In hard areas that require ripping or blasting for trenching, no pipes shall be unloaded
along ROW until the trench is complete. Extra care shall be taken when lowering onto
sand bags to avoid any damage to the coating.

9.1. Contractor shall comply and shall be responsible for ensuring that all sub-contractors
comply in all respects with GUPCO safety regulations and rules which shall be strictly
adhered to.
9.2. Contractor shall provide and maintain all temporary lights, guards, fencing and warning
signs when and where necessary for protection of the work.
9.3. All vehicles & equipment used shall be equipped with fire extinguisher of suitable
capacity.
9.4. Contractor shall provide and maintain sufficient and adequate first aid equipment at the
site and ensure that a sufficient number of personnel are trained in the performance of
first aid techniques.
9.5. Contractor shall be responsible for ensuring that personnel safety apparel (protective
clothing, hard hats, safety shoes, masks) is worn and used.
9.6. All equipment for use in the performance of the work shall be in a safe and proper
condition and capable of performing the intended work.
9.7. All persons engaged in the performance of the work are aware of and comply with
GUPCO safety regulations.
9.8. The necessary precautions shall be taken to prevent damage to the worksite and to
property and the environment adjoining the worksite and to keep it clean, tidy and in
good order at all times.
9.9. Contractor shall confine its operations strictly with the limits of the working strip,
special care to be taken while passing through mine field locations.
9.10. Existing P/L right of way shall not be used for access to the working strip.
9.11. Existing cables, P/L and other underground structures or services if indicated on the
drawings shall be detected, located and exposed by hand excavation, proper
notification shall be given in advance of excavation.
9.12. Contractor shall take utmost care to mark all exposed underground structures or
services and avoid any damage to surfaced roads and other above ground features.
9.13. Underground structures or services shall not be moved or disturbed without specific
agreement in writing from the controlling authority and GUPCO.
9.14. All cranes and side booms shall have a valid and current test certificate and to be
checked regularly and re-certified every 12 months, copies of test certificates to be
handed over to GUPCO.
9.15. All operators of lifting equipment shall be trained and experienced in the use of the
lifting equipment they are operating.
9.16. Cranes and side booms are not allowed to work in the vicinity of overhead power lines
unless a safe working distance is maintained.
9.17. All lifting hooks shall have a safety latch, also all lifting slings, belts and associated
equipment must be inspected and confirmed fit for purpose.
