SPE Nigeria Council would like to thank all authors for their invaluable contributions to this Journal
of Technical Papers. SPE also expresses its appreciation to corporate bodies that have encouraged
their personnel to prepare and make presentations at this year’s SPE conference and also
organizations that have sponsored participants. Full participation by authors and audience is
invaluable in the drive to share knowledge.
We specially thank the Management of E & P and Service Companies for their support in sponsoring
this conference.
Thank you for joining us in Abuja, Nigeria for the 29th SPE Nigerian Annual International Conference and Exhibition (NAICE 2005),
as we focus on the theme “Nigeria Petroleum Industry and the Challenges in the 1st Quarter of the 21st century”.
The technical program features fifty-one papers, spread over eight areas, namely: (a) drilling and completion, (b) gas, (c) reservoir
engineering, (d) reservoir management, (e) production operations, (f) Geosciences, (g) HSE and (h) sustainable development. A new
category, sustainable development was added in the year’s conference to accommodate papers on local content knowledge
management, capacity building etc. These papers will be presented during a total of twelve technical sessions, to share best practices
while facilitating exchange of ideas and we urge you to fully participate.
The Technical Papers Committee (TPC) expresses sincere appreciation to all those who sent in abstracts for this conference and
particularly congratulates those whose papers were selected. Special thanks go to all keys players in the industry, including the Major
E&P, Independents, Services Company and Colleagues from the Universities for their contributions towards making this conference a
success.
I thank the distinguished members of the Technical Papers Committee for their patience and commitment in reviewing the papers, the
result of which is this Journal of Technical Papers.
Finally, I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the SPE Nigeria Council and the NAICE 2005 Conference Chairman for giving me
the opportunity to serve.
