CONTENTS
A. Conditional Sentences

In Indonesian, a conditional sentence means a conditional sentence. This sentence can be

used to express cause and effect, the possibility of something happening, or to express
assumptions about things that are actually impossible to happen. There are 4 types of
conditional sentences, each type of which uses a different form of tense. However, basically
all conditional sentences consist of an if clause and main clause.

1. Conditional Sentence Type 0

Conditional sentences are used to express the cause and effect of a fact that is
generally known to be true. If thing A happens, it will cause thing

Formula:

- If + simple present tense, simple present tense

- Simple present tense + if + simple present tense

Example:

- If you heat butter, it melts.

- The ground gets wet if it rains.
2. Conditional Sentence Type 1
Type 1 conditional sentences are used to express something that is very likely to
happen in the future if we do something.
Formula:
- If + simple present tense, simple future tense
- Simple future tense + if + simple present tense

Example:

- If you go now, you will arrive there on time.

- I will buy a new bike if I pass the exam.
3. Conditional Sentence Type 2

Type 2 conditional sentences are used to express something that is unrealistic or

very unlikely to happen. Therefore, this type is suitable for expressing our dreams.

Formula:

- If + simple past, present conditional

- Present conditional + if + simple past

Example:

- If I lived in Seoul, tonight I would go to that concert. (In fact I don't live in
Seoul, so I couldn't go to the concert)
- I would play roller coaster every day if I owned a theme park. (In fact I don't
have my own playground, so I can't play roller coasters every day)
4. Conditional Sentence Type 3

Type 3 conditional sentences are used to convey assumptions about events that have
occurred in the past. Because the reality has already happened and cannot be changed,
we can only express assumptions about what would happen if the event turned out
differently from reality.

Formula:

- If + past perfect, perfect conditional

- Perfect conditional + if + past perfect

Example:

- If I had left my house earlier, I wouldn't have missed the train. (In reality I left
home late, so I missed the train)

didn't call, so I don't feel happy now)
