The melon city by
Vikram Seth
-Vikram Seth's poem “The melon city”
symbolizes nations governed by
superstitions and traditions.
-He so-called peace-loving king's true
nature is revealed when he unjustly
executes innocent people for minor
mistakes.
-The poem subtly critiques how criminals
escape the law and how people
manipulate the nation's policies for their
benefit.
MAHARASHTRA
Shivaji Maharaj - Shivaji Bhosle was born on feb 19 1630
in the fort of Shivneri, near the city of
junnar of the Pune district.

- Shivaji turned out to be a born leader


from a very young age.

- By the time he was 15, he had


accumulated a band of faithful soldiers
from the Maval region who later aided in
his early conquests.
- Shivaji Maharaj was a legendary Indian

Shivaji as a warrior warrior-king who founded the Maratha


Empire, challenging the oppressive rule of
the Adil shahi Sultanate and the Mughal
Empire.

- With his strategic brilliance and guerrilla


warfare tactics he established “Hindavi
Swarajya” or self-rule in the Deccan region.

- Shivaji’s just governance , epitomised by


the Ashtapradhan council, left a lasting
impact on his kingdom.
SIKKIM
Chogyals The Chogyals were the monarchs
who ruled over the Kingdom of
Sikkim. Their reign lasted from 1642
to 1975. All Chogyals belonged to
the Namgyal Dynasty, a line of
royals from Tibet . Chogyal Palden
Thondup Namgyal was the 12th and
the most significant king amongst
them all.
Chogyal Palden
Thondup Namgyal - Chogyal Palden Thondup Namgyal's
endeavors in modernization, education,
and infrastructure development laid a
strong foundation for Sikkim's progress.

- He contributed significantly to the


region's growth and prosperity.

- His vision and leadership continue to


be remembered and appreciated by the
people of Sikkim.
Some of Thondup - He was a forward thinking leader who
transformed Sikkim into a progressive
Namgyal’s and thriving region.

contributions - He initiated various reforms that aimed


at modernizing different aspects of
society and governance.

- His commitment to education was a


central aspect of his governance.

- His vision encompassed the


improvement of physical infrastructure,
recognizing its role in fostering
economic growth and societal
development.
Conclusion
With a strong sense of duty, kings like shivaji maharaj and Chogyal Palden
Thondup Namgyal have contradicted the king from the poem “the melon city”.
They were a true embodiment of leadership and compassion who governed
their kingdom with wisdom and fairness, always putting the welfare of his
subjects first.
