Below is a contingency table of 100 Cars cross-classified by their defect types (A, B and C) and brand (Ford
and Toyota).
Defect Types
A B C Total
Ford 30 19 15 64
Brand Toyota 20 11 5 36
Total 50 30 20 100
A laptop is selected at random. Let F = {Ford is selected}, T = {Toyota is selected}, A= {Car with Type A
defect selected}, B = {Car with Type B defect selected} and C= {Car with Type C defect selected}.
Problem (2):
55% of cars owner does mechanical check every six months. If a randomly selected car owner does the
mechanical check every six months, the probability of avoiding mechanical problem is 88%. If randomly
selected car owner does not do mechanical check every six months, the probability of avoiding mechanical
problem is 40%.
a. Find the probability that a randomly car owner avoids mechanical problem.
b. What is the probability that a randomly selected car owner does not do mechanical check every
six months, given that he avoids mechanical problem?
Problem (3):
The following circuit operates if and only if there is a path of functional devices from left to right. Assume
devices fail independently and that the probability of failure of each device is as shown. What is the probability
that the circuit fail?
