Mike Burnley is 13 and from Manchester in the United Kingdom. When he’s not at school, he works part-time in an animal
home. The home is for animals that are lost or are without homes.

Mike works there two evenings a week and sometimes he helps at the weekends. His main job is cleaning the cages where
the animals live and giving them their food and water. Sometimes he takes the dogs for a walk or plays with the cats.

‘I love working there. I became interested in animals when I was younger after my dad gave me a dog. There are lots of
dogs here but now I really like the unusual animals. The most unusual one I’ve ever worked with is a baby monkey. We
rescued her from a small zoo where she didn’t have a very good life. She was unhealthy and not very confident but she
