CATALYST GOAL – ACHIEVERS PROGRAM

HOW TO SET AND ACHIEVE GOALS

To help you maximize your goal setting process, I have outlines below some keys that will be
of help. I advice that you take some time off to reflect and think.

What do I need to set my goals?


 A distraction free environment
 A book
 A goal template (Print the template above)
 A pen/pencil (when filling already printed template, use pencil first to make room for
corrections)
 A sensitive,sincere spirit

A. HOW DO I SET MY GOALS FOR THE COMING YEAR?


5-step model or goal setting
1. Selection: pick out one area of your life (see template for priorities) that is important
to you with a pictureI in mind of how you want your life to look like in that area; (what
do you want in each of these area of life?)
 Spiritual/God
 Self interest (personal growth, health, rest)
 Relationships (Family,friends, mentors)
 Finance
 Impact/Ministry
 Business/Career
so lets say you can start with spiritual growth;
2. Indentification: list out and indentify anything, goals or accomplishment that can
create that future in your mind; what do I need to do for the next one,two or three
years to help me make that future a reality
3. Priority and Sequence: Among all you have listed, select the top goals that if
accomplished can lead to the accomplishment of other goals, and arrange them in
sequence,by asking yourself; which goal is more important to me?, and which do I have
to achieve first?. Pick atleast four goals.
4. Balancing priorities: Repeat step 1-3 again for other areas of life as highlited in step 1,
also see template above. When you have produced all the top and important goals for
the important areas of your life, then you can move to step 5 and make your SMART.
5. Make your goals SMART: It is not enough to just list goals, you must question the goals
to ensure it is smart enough to be achievd.
SMART means: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic and Time bound.

To make it easy for you look at each of your goals and ask the following questions;

a. Are the goals mine? Or are they imposed on me by others?: are they really what you
want or you just want to please others?, you have to take responsibilty for your life
b. Are they meaningful to me?: compared to my future aspirations, are they useful, why do
I want to do it?, what will will I gain in acgiving these goals
c. Are they clear and specific and measurable?; “I want to grow my finance” – this is not a
goal. Instead, “I will increase my income by 10,000 naira before september”. It is specific
and you know exactly what you want.
d. Are they fexible?: Your goal is not in control of you, you are in control of your goals, are
there room for adjustmesnts perhaps something did not work as expected?. Your goals
should flexible that when there is ned for adjustments, it can still be achieved, your
goals should nor suffocate you.
e. Are they challenging and exciting to me?: your goals should be big enough to challenge
you, but should not be too big to make you afraid. Your goals should challenge you but
still excite you. Fear will cripple it before you even start, If you are scared than, you have
to look at the goals again.
f. Are they aligned with my personal values and principles?; your goals must be consistent
with your belief system, conviction otherwise you will have mental struggle all through
as if you are doing something wrong.
g. Are they balanced enough?: just as no single nutrient is powerful enough to give a
balanced diet, it has to be a combination of nutirents. Similarly, no area of life is better
than the other, you must grow on all areas. If your goals focuses more on one or two
areas only, it is advisable you edit.
h. Are they realistic?; There is actually no unrealistic goal, we only have unrealistic time
frames. For instance: “ I want to make I million this year” and I am unemployed. Such
goal is good but unrealistic,surely you will make million but it must be within suitable
time frame otherwise yiu will suffocate yourself. A more realistic obe might be “I will
start my business this before august 24 th”, or “I will apply for 10 jobs in the banking
sector or engineering firms”. When you have a business or you are employed, then it
will realistic to set goal for grow your income. When there is no income, what will you
grow. Set reasonable time frames.
i. Do they contribute to humananity and God purpose?: when you goals are all towards
you, it is not balance. Actually, you meet you needs by meeting other peoples needs.
j. What support do I need? You can’t achieve all by yourself, are there room for people to
come in and support your goals, friends, mentors, family. Etc. your goals must involve
people.
k. Does the scripture support my goals?: At a minimum, you should back up every area of
your goals with a scripture to commit Gods word to perform on your behalf.

6. Transfer you SMART GOALS to the tmplate.

1. Action Plan: Create an action plan for each goal account using our action plan
template. []
2. Prayer: Take out time to pray on each goal/item and ask for Gods guidance and help. []
3. Visualize: Place (Print out the template above) your goals where you can always see
them and say them to yourself, until your goals becomes part of your being. []
4. Downsizing: Reduce each goal if possible to small actionable steps []
5. Habits: Use the principle of BE-DO-HAVE; develop habits that will help you become the
kind of person capable of achieving the goals above. []
6. Periodic Review: Always review your goals weekly, monthly, quarterly to assess and
keep track of your progress. []
7. Be ACCOUNTABLE: Submit your goals to mentors and report to them get advice and
provide accountability. []
8. Networking: No man is an island, what kind of friends or relationship will help you
achieve your goals, be clear and consciously cultivate them. People with like minds,
vision and goals for their lives. []
