Part B
QN 2 a). Suggest one type of information system (or technology solution) that can be adopted to
address the problem identified in question 1 above.
Learning management systems: These can be adopted to solve diverse students’ needs.
Examples include; quality control systems, management reporting systems. Management
systems receive up to date information which is processed, organized and analyzed and can be
used to find out and solve the diverse students’ needs. They give an overview of how many
students are facing a given issue which eases monitoring. They give the user gap to make logical
unstructured decisions.
b) Describe the features of the information system (technology solution) that you have mentioned in
Question 2 a) above, if it is to solve the problem described in question one above.
Collects information: The data various problems students face are processed and turned into
quantifiable information by the Management Information system which can aid in decision making.
Stores information: Management Information system stores information of different students which
can be used for reference, current use and strategic planning for the diverse students’ needs. For
example
Processes data: Management Information System acts as a central system within an organization that
checks whether the data entered into the system matches with primary information fed into the system,
then it gives a final report on how to improve if the data entered doesn’t match with the primary data
fed into the system and it gives a report on how to maintain if the data matches with the goals of the
organization.
Distributes information: The management information system receives the data and processes it into
meaningful information and gives it to the users that need it in a that period of time.
Makes information accessible: The Management Information system distributes information according
to the accessibility level of the authorized users. eg a student accesses less information from a
headteacher.
Decision support: The management information system converts students’ data into quantifiable
information eg graphs, tables, pie charts, that can be used by top management in making decisions to
address the diverse students’ needs.
Accounting: The management information system converts students’ data into quantifiable information
e.g., graphs, tables, pie charts, produces different percentages and ratios that enables top management
to make decisions to address the diverse students’ needs.
