Problem Statement of CEP
Finite element analysis is employed to design the structures under given loading conditions. It helps to
evaluate stresses/strains in various members/elements of structures to determine the safety of design.
Students (in groups of 4) are required t :
1. Perform finite element analysis of an engineering structure (machine/pedestrian
bridge/overhead bridge, etc) by considering all the applied loads.
2. Determine the size of members (trusses, beams, and columns) used in the construction of
structure.
3. Specify material(s) for members in order to carry the designed load safely
4. Present the analysis and final design using power point slides. Also perform the cost
calculations related to the design.
