MATHEMATICS

CLASS – 10th
M. time – 90 minutes
M. marks – 40

SECTION-1
(1 Marks each)
Ques 1: A letter of English alphabet is chosen at random. Determine the probability that the
chosen letter is a consonant.

Ques 2: A tangent PQ at a point P of a circle of radius 5 cm meets a line through the centre O
at a point Q so that OQ = 12 cm. Length PQ is:
(A) 12 cm
(B) 13 cm
(C) 8.5 cm
(D) √119 cm

Ques 3: If ∆ABC ~ ∆RPQ, AB = 3 cm, BC = 5 cm, AC = 6 cm, RP = 6 cm and PQ = 10, then

find QR
Ques 4: Find the number of solid spheres, each of diameter 6 cm that can be made by melting
a solid metal cylinder of height 45 cm and diameter 4 cm
OR
Ques: In the given figure, O is the centre of a circle, AB is a chord and AT is the tangent at A.
If ∠AOB = 100°, then calculate ∠BAT

SECTION – 2
(2 Marks each)
Ques 5: Two concentric circles are of radii 5 cm and 3 cm. Find the length of the chord of the
larger circle which touches the smaller circle.
Ques 6: In a simultaneous toss of two coins, find the probability of getting:
(i) exactly one head,
(ii) Atmost one head.

Ques 7: In the figure, DE||AC and DF||AE. Prove that BF/FE = BE/EC

Ques 8: A coin is tossed two times. Find the probability of getting both heads or both tails.

SECTION – 3
(3 Marks each)
Ques 9: Prove that the angle between the two tangents drawn from an external point to a
circle is supplementary to the angle subtended by the line segment joining the points of
contact at the centre.
Ques 10 Two customers, Shyam and Ekta, are visiting a particular shop in the same week
(Tuesday to Saturday). Each is equally likely to visit the shop on any day as on another day.
What is the probability that both will visit the shop on

(i) the same day?

(ii) consecutive days?
(iii) different days?

Ques 11: Due to sudden floods, some welfare associations jointly requested the government
to get 100 tents fixed immediately and offered to contribute 50% of the cost. If the lower part
of each tent is of the form of a cylinder of diameter 4.2 m and height 4 m with the conical
upper part of same diameter but of height 2.8 m, and the canvas to be used costs 100 per sq.
m, find the amount, the associations will have to pay.

Ques 12: ∆ABC ~ ∆PQR. AD is the median to BC and PM is the median to QR. Prove
𝐴𝐵 𝐴𝐷
that = .
𝑃𝑄 𝑃𝑀

OR
Ques: In the figure, A, B and C are points on OP, OQ and OR respectively such that AB || PQ
and AC || PR. Show that BC || QR.

SECTION – 4
(4 Marks each)
Ques 13: Prove that the tangent drawn at the mid-point of an arc of a circle is parallel to the
chord joining the endpoints of the arc.

Ques 14: A hemispherical tank, full of water, is emptied by a pipe at the rate of 25/7 litres per
sec. How much time will it take to empty half the tank if the diameter of the base of the tank
is 3 m?

OR

Ques: A container shaped like a right circular cylinder having base radius 6 cm and height 15
cm is full of ice-cream. The ice-cream is to be filled into cones of height 12 cm and radius 3
cm, having a hemispherical shape on the top. Find the number of such cones which can be
filled with ice-cream.

Ques 15: In the given figure, AB is the chord of a circle with centre O. AB is produced to C
such that BC = OB. CO is joined and produced to meet the circle in D. If ∠ACD = y° and
∠AOD = x°, prove that x° = 3y°.

Ques 16: Sides AB and AC and median AD of a triangle ABC are respectively proportional
to sides PQ and PR and median PM of another triangle PQR. Show that ΔABC ~ ΔPQR.
